Where in the Baton Rouge/Gonzales area can one find a good old fashioned hot dog with chili? And I don't mean the Sonic hot dog, which I don't particularly care for.
There was an A&W Root Beer at Cortana Mall years ago that sold hot dogs in several ways but I'm sure that's no longer there.
And if I decide to make my own chili, does anyone have a good hot dog chili recipe that a klutz like me can undertake?

i don't think that there is an easier meal to create for yourself than a hot dog. Are you seriously craving one enough to go to a restaurant?

I'd make my own if I had a good and simple chili recipe...the best hot dogs I've ever eaten used to be sold at the local VFW in Lutcher during the weekly bingo games.
My mom makes a pretty good chili but not as good as the old VFW. (Don't tell her )

If you like "stuff" on your hot dog, Chicago Al's is the place to go. I'm not sure if it's open today, but it definitely is open during the week. Very good! On O'Neal in between I-12 and Old Hammond. Closer to Old Hammond.

Go to Calandro's and buy Chisesi Chili. It is in the refrigerated section in a roll. It's the best hot dog chili you will find. I buy a couple and freeze.

Get some thin sliced Chisesi ham as well for sammiches.

The perfect hot dog.

Cook a good brand of hot dog on the grill, (grill marks rule) and top with a little celery salt when you take them off.

Use a fresh Bunny bread bun lightly toasted.

Top with mustard, finely chopped onions and Hormel no beans chili.

If you want to kick it up a notch, also add some Cane's cole slaw to the top of your dog.

ok, but Wolf Brand instead of Hormel, and gotta add cheese... Oh yeah, slice weenie in half, that way you get one on each side of the bun, makes it easier to eat with a FORK, and a piece of weenie with every bite!

I'm telling ya go to Calandro's and get the Chisesi Chili. It's fresh and made in New Orleans and beats any can you can find. Seriously.

Every time I see that Fried Food Paradise on the Travel channel, I always wish I could make a trip up to Rutt's Hut in New Jersey.

when you said that it triggered a repressed vision from my childhood days. my grandmother lived off south grand so we'd go over to that Otasco(?) sometimes that was nearby when i'd visit her.
