If unintentional helmet to helmet is going to be 15 yds

then not properly securing your helmet should also be 15 yards. Its all about the players safety.
I'm tired of seeing helmets flying around the field because skill players have loosely fitting helmets and don't snap all 4 snaps.

It is impossible to determine intent. It was clearly helmet to helmet and the rules say that is a 15 yard penalty.

By your definition, over half of all tackles are "helmet to helmet" and should draw penalties. Also, that's not the point of this thread.

NOT being ugly but and I understand the concern with concussions and all but how are they to make plays? Do you just say "oh, I can't hit you ... just score and win?" ... take it easy on me ... I'm a girl.

at first I thought it was helmet to helmet also, but in a slo-mo replay you can see Jones lead with his shoulder and hit the other player in the shoulder also.

I actually think the reaply shows Jones led with his shoulder. My opinion notwithstanding, I don't know how anyone who actually watched that play can say it was "clearly" helmet to helmet. It was anything but clear.

I can say this, I'm not sure I've ever seen a bigger hit, and both of them get up. Tough guys they are.
I like Chad Jones more all the time, great football player, great baseball player, leaves it all on the field.....every game!

quote:Disagree completely. The helmet is not a weapon. Basically you're supposed to hit a guy as if no one is wearing helmets. Wrap him up and bring him down. You wouldn't spear a guy if you didn't have a helmet. You wouldn't lead with your head if you didn't have a helmet.

Lose the Dreadlocks and "dew rags" and the helmet would stay more secure. I wish the NCAA Gestapo would initiate some sort of hair length and dress code in all NCAA sports. Not racist, mullets and pony tails of whites should also be removed.

I see no evidence of that here.

Obviously, you've never played organized football. Although I'm not condoneng it, tackling has been coached and taught that way forever. Eyes up, face in the opposing player's stenum. (ideally) It is rediculous to say they should tackle as though no one was wearing helmets. Helmet to helmet contact 95% of the time is incidental. Leading with the top of the helmet is dangerous for both opposing players, especially as it pertains to neck injuries for the person delivering the hit. If you want to see football teams tackling as though no one had a helmet on, go watch powder puff football.

It's only called on defenseless players. A tackler is not defenseless.

The NCAA (and NFL for that matter) really should be more vigilant regarding this issue.

whether helmet to helmet is intentional or not, its still equally as dangerous and should be 15 yards
