The Last Great QB

After reading some of the post in the Perilloux thread (ie, talk about Jones, Tittle, etc), I got to thinking, who is the last truly great QB to play at LSU? Would you have to go back to Bert Jones? I know Hodson was good and Tyler had a good career but I wouldnt consider them great. Davey and Russell were good. Flynn and Mauck brought NCs. But if you are talking top 5 in the country type, I guess Bert Jones would be the only one

I don't understand your criteria, unless its success in the NFL
Russell was great in college. That some are too stupid to realize it is their problem.
Tommy Hodson won 2 SEC titles and set many SEC records, he was a 4 year starter and one of the years he didn't win the SEC, LSU went 10-1-1 and finished #5. ETA: the one game we lost in 87, Hodson didn't start.

Jamarcus Russell hands down.

Talk about a short memory!

My favorite all time is Rohan Davey. He was a tremendous leader in his senior season. His athletic skills were way above average - perhaps not great by most standards; but great in terms of his leadership and what he meant to the TIGERS.

uhhh, JR was one of the top 5 QBs in the nation his last year by pretty much any measure.

Russell
Rohan's run to finish out the 2001 season was amazing. I cannot remember another time in the last decade when LSU's offense was so unstoppable.

Hodson

Check the SEC records...he played in an era where teams didn't throw with the frequency they do now and yet you'll still see him in the top 10 in terms of career yardage, TDs. And he's the only guy from that era that you'll see that high.
If not for the Archer implosion his Sr year, would have been a prime Heisman candidate.

Yeah, I guess Hodson. I loved him. Davey was prolly my favorite. But it just seems like there hasnt been much love for LSU Qbs. I know Russell was great but when I think top 5 like QB, it doesnt seem like any of those are thought of like a Bradford or McCoy. IDK maybe its just me

Alan Risher wasnt bad...

JR was at least the BEST QB since Bert Jones.

Knowing what we now know (and what at least some of us have suspected for awhile) about Miles' game management ability, does that make Russell's 2005-2006 streak of 22-4 with wins over 6 top ten teams that much more imnpressive?

Yeah, but he was picked #1 by the Raiders. Certainly that hurts his eval.
