I think everyone watching that game was yelling spike it right when he caught the ball until they realized how much time was left.

Well of course. Les Miles needs to be more than a spectator though.

I've got the CST replay of the last few minutes recorded on my HD TV, but it doesn't record in HD. Me, my brother, and my dad went back over the last few plays over and over again paying attention to different details. Here's a few of my opinions:

According to the clock on CST, there was 11 seconds on the clock when you hear the whistle blow for the LSU timeout. You can't see Les call it, but you can hear the whistle at 11 seconds. Les then appears to talk with the head ref for a little asking him about putting time back on the clock, and the ref gives him an expression like "there's nothing I can do about it". As mentioned, there may have been 9 seconds on the actual game clock at the stadium, so Les could have been asking him about something completely different, but I'm just going by what I have to go by. That was a precious second or two we lost, but regardless, we shouldn't have lost 20 additional seconds either.

According to the CST clock, Toliver was down with 4 seconds remaining, and the ref waves his arms with 3 seconds left, but the clock ticks another second afterward. Then the CST clock appears to be adjusted to the one second that was on the official game clock as that's what the announcers were repeating over and over again.

From the non HD replay, we went over the Miles signal while trying to read his lips. You honestly could not tell through real speed or slow-mo what he was saying on my TV. It could have been any of "Snap it", "Spike it", or "Clock it".

He DOES have an arm motion going downward three times long before the actual snap and spike. BUT, again, who are we to say what he was trying to convey? There's some things in football that I'm not too sure of, but I'll just throw this out there. Every snap, Jefferson throws his arm down just prior to the actual snap. Could that have been the same motion Les was making telling Jefferson to just get a snap off? Or it could have been for a spike. Or it could have been for the Toliver-down theory. I just don't see how anyone could come to a conclusion on which of these.

Finally, the camera angles immediately after the game are very, very good and telling. When Les walks away from Jefferson after their short conversion, he appears to ask his assistants about a timeout. He definitely mouths the word "timeout". A few seconds later, the camera moves over to two assistant coaches walking, pointing at the scoreboard (I don't know who all of the assistants are and what they look like). They were furious and definitely appeared to be debating the timeout count. Cauble posted last night that the Ole Miss scoreboard showed that LSU still had one timeout in the last few seconds and after the game. Apparently the coaches were going by that instead of keeping their own count, which is obviously stupid, but could provide some pathetic reasoning for the time management at the end. My dad said he thought he saw Toliver trying to call timeout right after the catch on one angle on CBS or CST. Either he didn't actually call for one, he thought we had one, or he was just as dazed as the rest of players/coaches just trying to think of something to buy time. I didn't look again for a Toliver called timeout though.

That's just my opinions from what I saw. Maybe you guys have the replay on better definition and rewind/slow-mo controls than I have, but I really think some of you, maybe most of you, if not all of you are just going by what you want to believe when there's really no good quality video and audio evidence to know what was being called for and when.

I was with you till this. If the HD feed shows him calling clock it or spike it then it proves what everyone here has been clammering about. He said he had no clue who called clock it. If the video shows he did say this then he lied. Maybe he was completely flustered and had no clue what was going on but it doesn't excuse any of it.

CST Replay removes all doubt "Clock it! Clock it!"

I really posted this because of everyone claiming that when he made that motion he was saying Toliver was down, which is wrong.

In another thread, someone posted that an observer on the sidelines claimed that Miles said Toliver was down (motioning). Not sure that's any better, but...

I heard the gentleman call on Deke's call-in show Sunday night. He stated he was at the game and was sitting close to the actin - says Miles was not yelling 'clook it' to Jefferson, but that he was yelling to all the officials on the field that Randle was "down", becausee an Ole Miss player ripped the ball out after Randle was already down. I think that's what Miles was yelling.
