Everyone has an aunt, cousin, brother or sister who can't cook for shite but they always bring a dish that everyone feels obligated to take a spoonful of, but they always leave with their Corning Ware almost full.

They ubiquitous green bean casserole with cream of mushroom soup and canned onions is the worst IMHO (no one can make that edible), followed by the canned cranberry jelly (ribbed for your pleasure). My sister's spinach Madeline, normally pretty good, is soupy and terrible.

Of course my smoked salmon appetizer, homemade baguettes, and home cured ham are delicious and the first to go.

I'm not a huge fan of the can green bean casserole, but Keller had this in the NY times a few years back and it is awesome.

Thomas Keller's Green bean casserole

Worst: anyone who makes stovetop dressing for thanksgiving

My sister-n-laws stuffing is dried out tasteless card board, but she can make a kick arse squash casserole.

My mother-in-law's congealed salad is the worst. I can't get past the look of it to even taste it. My son likes everything and he has only tried this once. How disgusting!

On the other hand my spinach madeleine rocks!

Oyster dressing - almost throw up thinking about it.

This almost happened to me. I hate oysters. At my first Thanksgiving at my future in-laws house, no one bothered to tell me that the dressing had oysters in it.

I couldn't spit that crap out fast enough.

Is this one of those jello salad things? I was joking with my husband recently that I really hope these type of dishes die with my mom's generation.

Green bean casserole is disgusting, but damn, people eat that crap up! I helped organize the teacher luncheon at school and that stuff was the first thing gone.

To the original question, my sister-in-law occasionally makes this creamed corn/cheese dish that's supposed to be served cold.

Yes, it is! It is a cranberry color and I swear it has chopped veggies in it, not chopped fruit.

I've never heard anyone ask her for the recipe, so I hope I never have to see it after she is gone.

On the other hand, she quit making the oyster dressing and now I really enjoy her dressing.

God bless her, she thinks she is a good cook. She is from Mississippi and lives there now, but spent over 30 years in Louisiana. She thinks she is a good cajun cook because she lived here and her mother was from New Iberia......not!

My grandma made this Asparagus and English pea casserole. She talked about it for weeks beforehand so everyone felt obligated to taste it. Everyone got the tiniest little serving and after one bite, everyone threw it away. It was HORRIBLE. By far the worst thing ever, and then she started talking about how good it was. Hopefully, I won't see it this year.

Casserole is a French word meaning pre-digested.

I had a relative that would serve the can of cranberry (sauce) still in the shape of the can.

Hell, most of the crap we have is disgusting. I am waiting for a Thanksgiving when we can grill BBQ and/or eat Jambalya.
