France vs. Ireland

Should there be a replay?
My thoughts:
As bad as I feel Ireland were the more attacking, stronger team I cannot say a replay should be ordered by FIFA. The handball was a missed call by the referee and the AR. This was not a mistake he made, rather, a call he did not make. I do believe that there was offsides on the play, Henry's handball was clear and acknowledged after, and Ireland should be irate that this goal was allowed. But, even with that stated, if FIFA were to call for a replay here it would be analogous to instant replay in other sports. Soccer is a fluid game where single decisions can have a monstrous impact. Was it unfair to Ireland? Yes. Can FIFA start the slippery slope of allowing replays for calls missed? I think no.

It's still a mistake that directly cost the Irish the game, if FIFA has any dignity they'll replay the game. But, it's run by Frenchmen so it won't be replayed.

IMO there HAS to be a replay. HAS to be.
It is so blatant that it ruins the game. Fairplay and all that shite? Out the window if that's allowed to stand.

this wasn't a run of the mill league game but I understand the idea of setting a precedent.
However there is way too much riding on this to just throw your hands up and say "too bad".

It's the exact result they wanted, so it's not going to happen.

This is such a hard decision to make, but I think they need to replay it. I can't think of many mistake more costly than the one made yesterday. The magnitude of the mistake is very, very large b/c it cost a team more than just a game.

I feel it will be a slight on FIFA if they do not order a replay but I wonder what would happen when other situations arise when a precedent like this is set?
Any yes, FIFA is run by the French...and Jack Warner. Clowns.

Yes, but there is no chance it will happen. Blatter and Platini have the final say so.

The Irish got robbed, plain and simple. It is for the best interest of FIFA not to replay this game. To me it's pretty obvious they wanted to see France in the World Cup, just like those SEC referees wanted to see Alabama at the SEC CG 2 weeks ago.

The desired result was achieved.

Should be "2 people" instead of 3, but still very funny, and gets the point across.

All 3 of them could have called that handball in the box. 1 of them could have called that offsides.
ETA - I know it's unlikely that the one at midfield could have seen it but you never know.

I don't see how you can blame the AR on the clear other side of the field, but that's JMO.
ETA: See your edit.

Technically he still didn't see it so he wasn't a witness.

Posted on another thread, the linesman was behind the play, he either was not able to keep up with Squilleci, or he dogged it and chose NOT to keep up with him. Thus, he is out of position to make the offside call to begin with.

i don't necessarily think that there should be a replay, but i'd certainly like to see one. seeing platini cry would be priceless. although, i'd be just as satisfied if roy keane came out of retirement for the next ireland-france game
jack warner could work to ireland's favor if the fa is willing to cough up the price of a nice gift basket

Speaking of Jack Warner, his fake twitter account is awesome. CONCACAFJack

Well, Russia you've made it really damn hard for Sepp and I to get you seeded for the Cup. We'll try our damndest though.

Really needs Costa Rica to win tonight. Unfortunately DIamond Jack keeps getting rebuffed by the CONMEBOL folks. Time to knock some heads
