History shows that firing Les Miles would be a terrible move

What a bunch of short sighted retards this board has become.
Seriously? Look at how the following programs have fared:
1) Notre Dame: Charlie Weiss 35-25, .583 winning percentage, was hired after firing Ty Willingham who was.583 as well.
2) Miami: Randy Shannon is 19-16 with a .542 winning percentage after firing Larry Coker, who was.800 with a 60-15 record.
3) Michigan: Rich Rodriguez is .347 which is fricking retarded for being in the big 10. This is after chasing Lloyd Carr out of town who was .753 with a 122-40 record.
4) NC State: Tom O'brien is .438 with a 14-18 record after firing Chuck Amato who was 49-35.
5) Texas A&M: Sherman sucks. 9-13. Franchione was better.
So put on your big boy pants and enjoy a stellar football program that wins 9-12 games a year and will continue to do so. Stop being such a bunch of fricking pussies.

You have to hire a name that would get an instant bang. Anything else (retreads/ promotion from a lesser program) is going backwards imo. CUM is the exception to the rule and the jury is still out on him minus Tebow.

All those guys came in after the program was to for gone. Not saying I think they are all good coaches, cause I don't. But, most of us see the direction we are going and want it stopped now. Before it is to late like the afore mentioned programs.

Excellent points ironsides!
But the local fan base on this board is young and the TAF people and the Board of Supervisors are so political that they seem to create havoc for the AD's at LSU. Look at our historic past?

Firing Lesticles would be the most epic frick up in the history of LSU atheletics.

If Les Miles was fired, this program would be in the toilet for 10+ years. We'd fall behind Ole Miss and Alabama perennially. Probably even Arkansas. But the bandwagon might get a lot lighter and this fanbase could enjoy bringing back the magic. So maybe there's a silver lining.

No coach in his right mind would come to a program that fires a coach after a 2-3 loss season and 2 years removed from a national title. Who the frick would want to work at a place like that? Add in the idiot fans, and you'd be lucky to get a fool from the sunbelt.

What anyone expect a Bama fan to say?

If this doesn't tell you he has to go, I don't know what will. Bama loves him so we keep him? Why? A guranteed win for the gumps every year? Red flags should be raised on his post alone.

what you say is so obvious to me that i struggle to put it into words. the segment of our fan base that wants that is (&^%)&_&)&(*^()*_(* . they most definately don't know what they are talking about. the guy has accomplised more than saban in his 5 years here. the names i have heard thrown around don't have half the resume of coach miles. one igmo even said "the jury is out on urban meyer". that alone proves that NO COACH would be good enough for his ignorant arse.

Bingo. We have a lot of spoiled, young armchair coaches on this board who have only negotiated a football field with a Playstation controller in their hands. They are too self-absorbed to step back and see how idiotic their comments are. I would be lying if I said I didn't have some serious concerns about Miles and some of the offensive playcalling and coaching. But at the end of the day I never have been nor will I ever be a paid college football coach and I don't pretend to know even a small percentage of what Crowton and Miles know about coaching or this team. But you can look at results in wins and losses and you simply cannot argue with Miles record since he has been here.

Nebraska fired Frank Solich, who followed legendary Coach Tom Osbourne. He had a 58-19 record there and was fired. He exceeded the total number of wins in his six years that Osbourne (55) and Devaney (53) had at Nebraska. After that, Nebraska went through the Bill Callahan years (similar to our Hallman years).

I agree. I mean just look at Florida after Ron Zook. Check out Bama after Mike Shula. How about TCU after Coach Fran? Cincinnati was stupid to fire its coach and bring in Brian Kelly, right?

It is a new day and age. At 8-2, his current record is good. At 8-4, those questions you have loom large. He would then be 13-11 vs the SEC in the last three seasons. What have you done for me lately applies. College football is HUGE money. At LSU we (if we drop the last 2) will be at a crossroads. The money is there, the recruits are there, where are the wins. It is the real world, produce or get canned. I would fire a nice guy in a heartbeat if he isn't making my business competitive. Losing money or losing ground to the competiton is BS. As Patton said, I don't pay for real estate twice. Never go backwards. Do what we have to do, but never go backwards. It is simply unacceptable.

agreed.
Miles has done many great things for this program, and winning a NC is not the greatest. He has brought integrity.
Miles' one weakness is also his strength - he is loyal to his players and his coaches, sometimes to a fault. It is what got him in trouble last year with the departure of Pelini, and it's what's gotten him in trouble this year with giving Crowton free reign on this pathetic "hybrid spread offense" that LSU now runs. There is no flow, and the play-calling is, at best, suspect (prime example being the continual failure to run the ball in obvious running situations).
When Miles reverts back to a more pro-style offense with a mix of power and speed (with or without Crowton), LSU will then, and only then, be a team playing at its best potential. Miles has given Crowton the opportunity to "show his wizardry", and it appears to be more "Oz-like smoke and mirrors" than anything of substance. Perhaps it's the ineptitude of the QB's, including JJ, to fully run the offense, but I believe it's more play-calling as we get further into the season, not just QB inexperience and/or lack of talent.

i'll tell you why i don't think this is true
other coaches watch lsu
other coaches know how lsu is a recruiting machine
they see the results on the field
a running joke with my friends is at halftime of the bama game, we always expect saban to say, "yeah i just have to say i saw the (first half, highlights, etc) of the LSU game and i laughed my fricking arse off"
Posted on 11/15/09 at 11:58 am to ironsides
Brian Kelly is there for the taking. LSU "settled" for Miles due to Saban's late announcement that he was leaving.
