Inspired by the Avatar thread.

Here goes:

The Matrix

Back to the Future (Not many time-travel movies before that that I can think of.)

Well, technically, no movie has an original plot. There’s only a few story archetypes and all are just variations on a theme. I guess the most original movie would be something like Adaptation or Eraserhead.

The Matrix is hardly original and the concept has been done before. Computer Simulated Realities was not a new concept that the Wakowski Bros. came up with, and the Chosen One arc has been done for a long, long time before the Matrix.

.......Time Travel has been done before. Not original. All it did was combine the best parts of the 80s with Time Travel, and it was gold.

See, none of these concepts are original, so you just proved my point: Its HOW, not WHAT the film is about.

No movie that has been listed is an original plot.

And really, there pretty much are no movies with original concepts, just novels and folklore.

it depends on how original you're looking for. i could look at anything and find the common elements.

It wasn't even the only movie dealing with virtual realities that came out in the late late 90s. The Thirteenth Floor(1999), Dark City (1998) and eXistenZ (1999) had similar themes.

One you listed, Star Wars, is hardly original in the slightest. Space movies had been done before, and as pointed out before, it was the Chosen One being trained by a mentor, running into some comic characters on the way, and saving a princess and the rebellion against an evil empire. That has been done many times before.

of course but that's only one way of looking at it.
