First off, I think Alem is an outstanding DE, but he is most-definitely a pass rush specialist. It seems that the 2nd half was nothing but Ingram running to his side, Alem overpursing, and Ingram cutting it up between the DL & DE on Alem's side because of his overpursuit.

I don't know...he should DEFINITELY be playing a lot, but maybe a bigger, run-stuffing DE would be more suitable as an every-down player, with Alem brought in for obvious passing situations. He would be less gassed and better able to get to the QB.

Just a thought..What say the rant?

I agree... He struggles at getting off blocks and squeezing to the ball. He's a standup DE or OLb ( in 3-4 ). He's for sure a second and long and 3rd down guy. I dont really know who can come in that truly deserves more playing time. I guess thats whats the problem

He's a pass rush specialist. He is not an every down DE!

Far from it. He may be an above average pass rusher but he is far from a complete defensive end. He can't play the run worth a shite.

How about an all-around DE?

With Alem starting, we really run a 3-4 defense. I think he was most effective used on pass situations and third downs. Also, coming in on third downs, he is more rested and more effective rushing the QB.

Shouldn't a pass rush specialist get some sacks?

Doesn't matter, hes a SR. He earned the right to start.

That is Miles' philosophy.

Another band member sounds off. Who should start over Alem? Are you at practice?

I agree that is what he is billed as.

However, I dont see him pressure the QB with any regularity.

Playing him on every down where's him down and makes him less explosive therefore ineffective on passing down. Basically a lose/lose.

My question about Alem would be this...

They say you're a pass rush specialist...but you never get any sacks and don't seem to pressure the QB very often.

What exactly would you say it is, you do here?

Anyone who doesn't suck at stopping the run.

I watch all the games in which Alem sucks at stopping the run and rarely gets any pressure on the QB.

Probably not.

But not many options...

I guess there isn't anybody else on the roster that can get stood up on every running play and watch as the RB goes trucking by and then act all upset and mad afterward.
