I like the off-the-menu stuff at Hunan... I highly recommend the prawns with fruit sauce...

quote:I've heard good things about this place, but have yet to try it. The only authentic Dim Sum I've had was in Chinatown in Montreal. No one there except my girlfriend and I spoke a lick of English so the only way we got by was by pointing at things, coupled with my limited Chinese vocabulary.
Dim Sum
Dim Sum is on my "to do" list.
Anyone else been there?

Taste of Asia on Sherwood, hands down. It isnt necessarily "Chinese", but rather a mix from a few diff Asian cultures/regions. Their Pork Springrolls are amazing.

No such animal, BR is a chinese restaurant wasteland.
But, if you must, Taste of Asia, PF Changs, Lil Saigon, Tasty Casian, etc..
Personally, I make trips to NO, and come home with Cafe East, Five Happiness(not nearly as good as it used to be),etc..
I don't aspire for BR to ever be in the league of NYC, SF, Sea, Port, LA, LV, Chi, SD, Honolulu, etc..for asian fare. But, if it could just be on par with Hou and NO, I'd be ecstatic.

3 of the four you listed aren't Chinese joints.

Yes, they're not all Chinese, but their quality is topshelf by BR standards. In BR, quality lacks so greatly, that imho, most asian fare must be grouped as a whole, based upon decency and/or edibility.
Taste of Asia is 1/3rd Chinese, Thai, Viet.
Spy, as you know, BR's Thai, Viet, and Korean fare, is better than it's Chinese.

You are dead on with that.
Where have you found Korean in BR? I love to get some of that.

Not a full-fledged true Korean restraurant, but Little Saigon, and I believe one other place I've found, can't remember which, had a few solid Korean BBQ plates, with BBQ/Kabobs on skewers.
Just as with jewish delis..the closest are usually NO to the East..H-Town to the west.

I just picked up a sesame chicken from combo king, but this time I asked them to make it a little spicier, and it's SO much better.
I didn't realize it beforehand, but the guy who works the counter told me that the cooks are Mexican. Who knew.

There are so many good Thai, Chinese, Vietnamese, Japanese restaurants, not to mention Belaire Chinatown, in Houston.. C'mon.. expecting BR to compare to a city the size of Houston is setting BR up for failure.. Just can't happen.
