The Chimes (east) .... LARGE, perfect batter consistency and flavor(actually compliments the flavor of the shrimp), butterflied, and cooked perfect. These were from the platter, not the poboy...not sure if they cut any corners with the poboy or not.

Oysters were very good as well.

I will admit, I was very disspointed when I opened my to go order box and saw only 4 shrimp and 5 oysters... This had to be oversight right ? They wouldn't instruct their kitchen to put that small amount of seafood in the box would they ? It was $13.50 and came with fried and a salad....

With seafood as good as this, along with items like their blackened gator, boudin, crab cake sandwich, and their wonderful red beans/sausage (yes, red beans)...I'd say the chimes is UNDERRATED based on a lot of feedback here (not based on their obvious local popularity due to ALWAYS being packed though)

Dempsey's has a damn fine fried shrimp and I think the batter is better seasoned than Chimes East.

Chimes East are very good though.

Chimes is actually OVERRATED, IMO. Only things I like there are the etouffee and the duck gumbo.

I once got the fried seafood platter (a few years ago) and was also disappointed in the quantity- I think there were 2 fried crabfingers....won't get that again
But I do love the Chimes- I don't care what anyone says! I have to eat there everytime I am in town

i strongly agree and only slightly give the nod to the chimes... and that probably just b/c I just got done eating them ...demsey's is very good and the batter is a tad lighter

perhaps just personal preference ? I consider myself very picky when it comes to fried shrimp

I've never been impressed with a meal from The Chimes, decent bar food at best.

Very few restaurants have personalized and/or custom-fitted to-go wares for their menus. And many will serve much less in their to-go orders.

I find the national chains to be much better than local places and takee-outee joints, which seem to order generic styrofoam boxes in mostly one-size-fits-all.

PF Chang's, Bonefish, Fleming's,etc..have to-go portions of exact or near exact to their dine-in options.

their fried shrimp are definetly not "bar food" .... bar food would be cutting open a bag of pre-breaded, frozen baby shrimp and dumping them in some old grease... i can asure, this is not the case

its definitely better than bar food. There wasnt a part of the plate that I said man this is good. Its fine, but not the best I have had.

the love for their blackened gator puzzles me. i have had it twice and you can tiny pieces of gator for like $10. huge rip off. if any dish is overrated, it is that one.

their crab cake sandwich was pretty good however

George's on George O'Neal has great fried shrimp. Wouldn't have expected it, but now that where I go when I want really good shrimp.
