re: Does anyone make Chicken Schwarma with dark meat?

Arzi's in Denham Springs was the bomb. Closed now to make way for a parking lot. Said they are reopening in the summer near Watson. Guess I'll have to hit the Mall of LA until that happens.
Eight Sisters is on the corner across the street from Magnolia. A bunch of great sisters who cook serve awesome soul food with lots of love!
Zilla, I agree! Church's just hard to find nowadays...
Catman, that's what we always called chicken and dumplings growing up in waaayy south LA. It wasn't until I was 25 and had moved "nawth" to Baton Rouge that I learned what real country chicken and dumplings were supposed to be. FWIW, I prefer the old Cajun style with the drop biscuits!

Ditto! For a small market, they are good. And their passion for LSU is unmistakeable.
Who has the best turkey?
Posted by epjr on 11/17/09 at 11:30 am
Okay, I've had two bum turkeys for the last two holidays, and am about ready to give up. Any suggestions as to who sells the best raw turkeys? Frozen? Fresh?
George's on George O'Neal has great fried shrimp. Wouldn't have expected it, but now that where I go when I want really good shrimp.
The steaks are Doe's are great, but the sides? Seriously, they are awful, to the point of being unedible. We had burnt fries, a plain bland salad, "new" potatoes that were not... What's wrong with a good loaded baked potato? I think they could mess even that up.
Jujubes and circus peanuts
Oxymoron :usa:
The problem I have with Cocodries is that there is never any variety, never a menu change. After a few years, it gets really boring to go there. The food is pretty consistent, but never changes. No new dishes - kinda takes the incentive out of going. Their pecan tilapia is usually wonderful, however. It is such a nice building and location. Too bad they can't generate a little more excitement with the food.
Best meal, hands down, in Denham is the schwarma salad or plate at Arzi's, corner of Range and Florida. Not a fancy dining place - may want to take out, but the food in incredible. Best kept secret in town! For sit-down dining, our DeAngelo's is standard, but good and Lagniappe is also very good.

I visit Nashville quite often, and the best advice I can give is to eat cheap because the food is very mediocre. Spend your money on the music, and treat yourself to good food in NOLA before and after! Johnny Rockets in the Opry Mills Mall has a great burger, there are White Castle's and Mrs. Winners fried chicken everywhere - all pretty good fast food. Not worth spending a lot on food there - see more live music instead. They do that right!

Agree on Loveless Cafe! Got biscuits? 30-40 min drive into the country, but worth it. There is also a nice place to eat on the main drag downtown. Can't recall the name of it, but it was the original post office - beautiful marble building, sits on a corner street. Very good food.
Yes, in the Baton Rouge area, or close surrounding areas. It would be worth a short drive to find some good fresh fried chicken. I like the crispy kind, though...
Fried Chicken! Does anyone know...

Don't diss on Jordy. He is very professional and always handles himself with restraint and dignity. I never hear him hatin' on anyone - always has a positive spin. He is actually quite good for a market this size.
...then don't be one.

Does anyone know of a place in Grand Isle that would be televising the LSU/ULL game?
