I was always told by family and friends growing up, that no team in the NFL can have Home Field Advantage for a Superbowl. Is this true? That said, no NFL team has proved them wrong.

The joke was that they should always play the SB game in the Dome because the Saints never make it so no home team problem.

pretty sure its all a technicality. the game is "neutral." however, if a super bowl is being held in say miami (like this year) and the dolphins make it, the NFL wont move where the game is played but it is still called a "neutral" site

The Super Bowl is technically a neutral field, but is always held at the stadium / dome of one team currently in the league.
Given the past host cities, the most likely teams to end up with home-field advantage at some point are the Dolphins (10 SBs in Miami as of the upcoming SB XLIII), Saints (9 held in New Orleans), San Diego (3), and Tampa (3).
The greater LA area has hosted a large number of Super Bowls, but none have been held there since 1993 as both the Raiders and Rams left shortly after that.
Upcoming seasons will see the game held in Arlington (Dallas-Ft. Worth), Indy, and New Orleans, all of which have teams capable of making it to the Super Bowl.

It's not true.
If the superbowl happens to be in the superdome and the Saints make it, it'll still be played in the dome.
They can't just move the site of the SuperBowl in two weeks.

exactly........way too much work is already done to prepare for the big game. It would be a nightmare......

The same people who go to Saints games are not the same people who go to Super Bowls, not even close.
May have some local fans from local packages, but most of those tickets are Corporate or promotional.

The reality of the situation is that very few tickets go to ticketholders of either team, so there is no homefield advantage.

New Orleans, Louisiana- The Super Bowl comes marching back to the Big Easy after a ten year hiatus. The party for this game already is like none ever seen before. Last Tuesday’s Mardi Gras started a celebration that has not yet ended. This is the first game in the forty seven year Super Bowl history for a team to play in their home stadium. The 12-6 New Orleans Saints will be vying for their third Vince Lombardi trophy in four years. The game against returning Super Bowl XLVI Champion Patriots 14-4 will match the two top teams of the past five years. Fans can only hope for excitement to come close to the Saints-Patriots first ever overtime Super Bowl game in Miami 2010. That game ended 14 minutes into overtime with Drew Brees passing 48 yards to Devery Henderson to score on a 4th down and 2 play. Last year New England trounced Philadelphia 35-10 for their 4th world title. It was their first since losing in Super Bowls 42 & 44.
The game will be the second showdown of the pair of two-time NFL and Super Bowl MVPs. Drew Brees who just turned 34 has shown no signs of age or injury slowing him down. Tom Brady, 35, on the other hand might be reaching for glory one last time. He has been beset with a plethora of injuries the past five years. He was shelved for nine games in the middle of the season with back problems. Second year heir apparent Jake Locker went 6-3 in the interim and looks ready to takeover.
The NFL never had to ponder much of a home field game when the previous Super Bowls were awarded to New Orleans prior to 2009. When they expanded the schedule in 2010 to 18 games they created a unified Mardi Gras/Super Bowl Week. Now a team that was mired in failure and mediocrity for decades hopes to create a Fat Tuesday II today.
