I've noticed a lot of people on here defending JJ and his play by stating that "how can you bench a QB with a 63% completion percentage?"

To that I state that when you hold onto the ball and don't throw it away to avoid sacks, of course your completion percentage is going to be good. Those are smart throws.

To that point, JJ has 4 career INTs while Lee has 16. Flip that and JJ has 27 sacks in 9 games (3 sacks/game) and Lee has 8 sacks in 11 games (0.73 sacks/game). This is counting games each played a significant amount of snaps.

That is a huge difference, and definitely affects the statistics.

I understand the OL was better last year too, but JJ did give up 3 sacks in all 3 of his 3 real games last season with the same OL Jarret Lee had.

Overall, I am not advocating switching Lee for Jefferson right now, but thought this was an interesting stat to look at when comparing the two fairly.

EDITED to correct the number to 27 for JJ

Which is better? Two sacks or 1 interception?

Perhaps JJ is gun-shy because of how people turned on Lee last season.

Depends on the circumstances

I really think this is a no brainer. A sack, while potentially costly, is not a turn over. It puts the offense in a tougher spot (thanks to the loss in yardage) and can be a drive ender...but it doesn't give the ball over to the other team.

A pick, by definition, does exactly that.

I'm not a fan of either, but I'll take sacks 8 days a week over picks.

Think of it this way...which statistic would you prefer our defense to be leading the nation in...sacks or picks? I'm going to go out on a limb and say people will say picks.

Lee also threw 8-10 touchdowns to the opposing teams but I think we should give him a quater to see what he can do.

hey throwing td's to the other team is a team effort. The offense would be ranked last in tackling after a int

I completely agree that Lee's INTs were costly last season, but given our defensive struggles, our offense was having to carry the team. Crowton also made horrible play calls that put Lee in horrible positions. The first UGA Pick 6 was a perfect example of that. Horrible play calling.

Now, to be honest, this is also hindering Jefferson along with a crappy OLine.

I just think that getting 3 sacks back to back losing like 20 yards and then forcing a punt are just as a bad as an INT on a deep pass. It's just that the offense quit at trying to stop the returns on the pick 6's half the time, which made them worse.

one thing though JJ's problems are easier to coach then JL's. They can get JJ in better positions to throw the ball away or run with it. Teaching a qb to read coverages is difficult

Teaching JJ to shorten his release is also hard

uh, why do you think JJ is getting sacked? Hes not reading anything. He waits until someone is wide open.

Kingwood, like the others have stated, JJ's issues are his ability to read and react to pressure and coverages. The kid can't handle it. Look at the Ole Miss game last year for an example of this. Furthermore, look at the second half off both the Arky and GT games last year.

Why did our offense drop off in both games during the second half? Teams adjusted to crowton's gameplan, and he never did.

Lee hasn't gotten a fair shake, and that's a fact, but neither will JJ at this rate. I have a feeling we are seeing another Davey/Booty and Randall/JR controversy.

JJ has many issues, he has no pocket prescence, he sees the field poorly, he takes sacks because he runs sideways instead of stepping up in the "pocket" and throwing it downfield or away, he can't run the option because in order to run the option correctly the QB has to make the D either commit to him or the pitch man, in order to do this the QB has to be willing to take a hit to sale the D on him running up field, JJ will not take a hit running the option. JJ plays scared end of rant.

Jefferson 9 sacks in 3 games last season
Jefferson 18 sacks in 6 games this season

that is 27 sacks in 9 games or 3 a game by my math

Especially when followed by an 18 yard punt.

Would depend.

I don't mind deep pass picks so much (you can actually gain yards compared to getting sacked and then punting).

The slants blow though.

JL and JJ were/are still young QB's and hence, both are going to have weaknesses.

IT IS THE COACHES JOB TO IDENTIFY THESE WEAKNESSES, AND NEUTRALIZE THEM AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE WITH GOOD COACHING (DURING THE WEEK) AND CAREFUL PLAY CALLING (DURING THE GAME).

Miles and Crowton have done neither particularly well with JL and JJ. I think both kids have played hard the last two years, and deserve credit for hanging in there. Both have a ways to go still, but there is no reason to think that they can't achieve with GOOD coaching.

Also JJ is passing for like 197 yrds per game.

If we could get this to at leat 250-275 we could put some points up and the running game would improve also.
