Miles and Recruiting

Miles is given a lot of credit for being a great recruiter and his recruiting classes back that up. But is it his ability to recruit or is it that LSU is in a talent rich area and plays the best competition year in and year out? How many others coaches can come in and continue to bring in top talent?
Both Saban and Dinardo brought in good talent also, but one was not able to produce with it.

Respectfully, Dinardo did not bring in talent anywhere close to the level of Saban.

why do you think Florida, USC, Ole Miss, Alabama, Texas always have good recruiting classes. While the head coach can make a difference in bringing a handful of guys in, its all about location.

That's BS...there are plenty of Dinardo's guys that are still in the NFL now...Our '01 team was mostly DiNardo's recruits.
Believe it or not, Coaches not named Saban can also recruit well here.

Miles can recruit and has held LSU's football program together when many said he couldn't do it.

fans can bitch about a lot of things with coach miles but recruiting isnt one of them . he is up there with the best in the country when it comes to recruiting.
even though lsu is in a talent heavy area the coach is the one who brings the players in.

This is kind of what I was getting at. While Miles seems to bring in very good classes, other programs are pulling ahead. Last year it was the defense and this year is the offense. I just hope LSU can fix the mistakes before LSU falls to far behind.

Once we begin to consistenly have sub top 15 recruiting classes, then I'll become nervous.

Do you think that LSU football started with DiNardo? If LSU's recent recruiting success has nothing to do with Miles, how do you explain the wealth of talent that left the state in the late 70s, 80s, and early 90s? LSU may be one of the better places to recruit to, but it still takes a good recruiter to achieve our recent success.

Coach miles is a great recruiter..Saban is a great recruiter, i thought Dinardo was a great recrutier as well. These guys just have a different philosophy in recruiting what style of player they want.
Its hits and misses with all programs..LSU has depth at all positions..they are fine, some a little younger than others....Remember every year we love these recruiting classes and 2 and 3 years ago, we were saying these guys are must gets, and we wanted them to play asap..Well, these are the guys who are playing..College Football is a business, plain and simple ( thats why attrition is necessary) and LSU business is running pretty smooth right now.
We just surviving right now, and cant beat people 43-3 anymore..so what, we 5-1 and lost to a much more talented team in Florida, and still could have one...Guess thats what so frustrating to us..I would have taken 10-2 or 11-1 cause we gonna play with bama (more our style of team) and have a shot of a rematch come December..

DiNardo had to work hard to establish the recruiting base in Louisiana again and got Rohan Davey, Kevin Faulk, R. Mealy, S. Peterman, Andrew Winey, Josh Reed, C. Collins, Kevin Faulk, Mark Roman and Brady James. Those guys helped get the ball rolling so we could get to the point where we could have an entire class of guys like that. It was his unwillingness to change coordinators that was his downfall. Give Miles some credit for not having the same problem.

I assume you dont mean pulling ahead in recruiting. And in all honestly, there aren't really any programs "pulling ahead" of LSU. It's pretty much the same 10-15 schools in the mix every year.

17 of the 20+ players that went pro under Saban were Dinardo recruits.

I'm don't think he's been around long enough to dismantle a program...yet.
