Some of you people are so clueless.

You realize that Alleva was at the helm of the most successful athletics year in the history of LSU last year, right?

Yeah, he was hired to squeeze more money out of the fans, not to actually do anything related to athletics. He's a marketer, not a manager.

the reveille is not even worthy of being toilet paper, so who cares what those ruhtards are writing?

You've just described every AD in the country. I don't understand why so many LSU fans think this should be run as a not for profit
FWIW that's a terrible article. In par. 1 he says "it struck me as a bit strange" then in par. 2 he says "it struck me as very strange." I don't know whether he was trying for parallelism, but it sounds more like he didn't bother to proofread.

Didn't Aleva hire Trent Johnson to coach our basketball team? I think he did, and I was pretty impressed with his coaching job.

Well, I wouldn't go that far, but it certainly is a big part of the job, which is why the writer was missing most of the reason behind the hire. There were some valid points in there.

1. Nobody was gonna handle the Duke lacrosse case perfectly so there is no reason to hold it against him especially since its highly unlikely anything like that will happen again.
2. Duke football has been good for about one year since WWII so hardly his fault.
3. Nobody cares about college baseball outside of the SEC and about 5 other teams why wouold Alleva change that at Duke.

im not saying alleva is that terrible but this comment is dumb, considering that it was his first year and he had minimal effect. He didnt hire any of those coaches so how did he influence it? Im not sure about johnson, but jury is still out.

You kinda wonder what people expect him to do about our coaches. what did they want him to do since then he got here? he hasn't needed to fire our football or baseball coach, and he made a great hire for our basketball coach. Chavis was a good pickup idk if that is him or miles probably a little of both.

So this writer - Stephen Wolf - rips Alleva because he didn't turn around the Duke 1) football program 2) baseball program. Yet, he failed to mention Duke won a title, made another title trip and only missed a Sweet 16 during his reign as AD once (I just looked it up).

Sure, a lot of that had to do with the fact that the Duke basketball team is a powerhouse. Now, so are the LSU football and baseball programs. How much effect does the AD have in that? Wolf says none.
quote:

“Under Alleva’s direction, all 20 LSU sports competed in NCAA post-season play for the first time in school history, and it culminated with the baseball team winning the national championship.”

Yes, because we all know the impact Joe Alleva had on these programs’ performances in his first year as AD.

Okay, so according to wolf the AD should never get credit for the university's success (unless he is not bringing rings to worthless Duke baseball/football teams).

The one thing he calls out is a mismanaging of one of the rarest college scandals that we have seen. Of course Aleva was pressed to find answers. Wolf acts as if Aleva was on some completely self-motivated, reckless rampage to ruin the program.

Our football and baseball programs have established themselves and don't need anything from an AD. The basketball team needed a coach, and Aleva hit a home run with Trent Johnson. The team looked well coached and the recruiting has been sound - especially considering the academic shape and trouble that Brady left the program with.

Wolf likely won't get hired after this article, because it wasn't very good. As for The Reveille, when did you have to post this before an article?

EDITOR’S NOTE: Stephen Wolf is a guest columnist for The Daily Reveille; his views do not represent those of the paper or its staff.

When are the views in an opinion column by a staffer "representing those of the paper or its staff"?

Yeah, considering that he's been AD for over a year now, it's sort of strange that the author had nothing to say about his actual performance at LSU so far. Why complain about the reasons for his being hired over a year ago if he isn't doing anything wrong?
