I have heard this term used to describe the Chavis D. Bend but don't break is a piss poor defensive philosophy. If this is really what he is going for, then LSU will never win another NC as long as Chavis is there.

If the defense "bends" to our own 45 yard line and forces a punt, the offense will be stuck with 90+ yards to go for a TD. Its not easy for an offense to be productive when they are throwing OUT OF THE ENDZONE.

A bend but don't break defense is basically like saying "we don't care about field position."

I wonder what Saban would say if you asked him to use a "bend but don't break" defense.

The defense is the best part of our team this year.

Does it really matter where the offense starts as long as the other team doesn't score? It's not like the Offense is going to move the ball much anyways.

I asked him that right after the Cap One bowl and he said it would've worked but Ronnie Prude blew it...

Well..he's close to being right. If we have just an above average offense, this defense can bring us a championship...easily imo.

Do you guys really think the D was good? UF didn't even turn a page in the playbook. THEY DIDN'T NEED TO. Running on us at will. If you were getting 4.4 yards a carry would you be worried about how many points you could score?

Yeah field position counts, but your not taking into account takeaways, punt returns. The defense is giving up 13.8 pints a game on average that is pretty good.

The defense is the only reson we still have a chance in this league! Chavis's defense looks like a system that has been in place for years while Crowten's offense looks newly implemented trying hopelessly to find an identity. "The defense is not this team's problem!" Try again.

He's running bend but don't break for a reason. He sees the deficiency we have on the interior of our DL. Any DC would prefer no bend either.

But, what he is successfully doing is covering for a deficiency. His back 7 gets ever harder to move on as the field gets shorter. He could sell out more in the middle of the field but that would likely result in more big plays on us.

The dude is doing EXACTLY what a smart coach should do given our DL issues.

i agree, but so far this year, we've seen below average offense..

the defense has played much better, but to be a dominant defense we need the line to pick it up a notch or two...

They were driving down the field all night. The dt's can't get off blocks and get penetration as in years past.

Which is what makes the job Chavis is doing all the more noteworthy.

Did you watch a game last year?

The strides the defense has made in one year is pretty striking. Defense was on the field way more than they should have been and they held the #1 team in the nation to 13 points.

Good point. But with all the talent we have, why haven't we seen more blitz packages? It's like hes afraid to take a chance, even when we need it.

AND BY THE WAY, I never said the defense sucks. Please take Reading Comp. 101 again.

Honestly, yes, holding Florida to 13 points (7 of which were due to a ridiculously bad none called hold) is a championship quality defense.
