Inspired by the Harrison thread and seeing him act so morally righteous on tv...here is my list.
1. Rodney Harrison
2. Esa Tikkanen
3. Claude Lemieux
4. Xavier McDaniel
5. Steve Wisniewski
6. Conrad Dobler
Those are my top 5 with Dobler entered for the old folks

Romo became a thug after he got on the juice. When he was an Eagle nobody ever heard of him. The rest of this bunch came into the league because of being idiots or dirty players.

Paolo Montero and Marco Materazzi are up there if we are including soccer players.
Bill Laimbeer and Bruce Bowen among basketball players, also Stockton and Hornacek were notoriously dirty.
For football, you have to include Harrison, Jack Tatum, and Romanowski.

As an aside, did anyone see Tatum on the sideline at the USC-Ohio St game? He looks like Tyrone Biggums' crazy uncle.

Because of what? Paralyzing a guy? That was a clean hit. He played legally within the rules at the time (which were MUCH less strict than those of today). Many of his hits today would be dirty, but weren't then, so you can't classify them as such. He was just a hard hitter.

seriously? I mean, I'm not the biggest NBA fan, but I've never heard of Stockton being dirty. What did he do?

His hits were mostly legal...at the time. Anybody who tried that crap today would be banned in a hurry.

ETA: Looking at some of the old rules, it seems like it's almost impossible to label anyone from the 80s and earlier a dirty player. Just an extremely violent game. I do think the NFL has gone too far in protecting the players in some instances (especially the QBs), but glad it's not like what it was.
