"Poll Watching
My reaction to the latest polls and standings:

Overrated: LSU (AP: No. 9; coaches: No. 7)

Two games in, the Tigers have provided little indication of their anticipated return to heavyweight status. Last week the defense raised suspicion after allowing 478 yards to Washington. This week the offense was highly unimpressive against Vanderbilt, which trailed just 16-9 midway through the fourth quarter. LSU may be 2-0, but it's yet to look like a top 10 team."

Sounds about right.

LSU is an average team right now.

Nobody realized it rained 6 inches over the last 3 days in and around Tiger Stadium........The tiger's efforts where more than adequate on a wet field against Vandy........look at Vandy's last 10 SEC games and see how many points people were scoring on them.

Aug. 28 Vanderbilt 34 Miami (Ohio) 13

Sept. 4 Vanderbilt 24 USC 17
Sept. 13 Vanderbilt 38 Rice 21
Sept. 20 Vanderbilt 23 Ole Miss 17
Box Score
Box Score
Oct. 4 Vanderbilt 14 Auburn 13
Oct. 11 Miss. State 17 Vanderbilt 14
Oct. 18 Georgia 24 Vanderbilt 14
Oct. 25 Duke 10 Vanderbilt 7
Nov. 8 Florida 42 Vanderbilt 14
Nov. 15 *Vanderbilt 31 Kentucky 24
Nov. 22 Tennessee 20 Vanderbilt 10
Nov. 29 Wake Forest 23 Vanderbilt 10
Dec. 31 VU 16 Boston College 14

Florida was the only team to seperate itself from Vandy last year in the SEC, this team returned 18 starters.......So again what did LSU do so bad in the rain?

WOW, have some faith in our still very young QB! Looks great to me for a kid who is still building his confidence.

Faith has nothing to do with what Mandel seemingly wrote. At this point LSU does not look like a top 10 team.

Apparently the world will judge LSU based off what happens in Washington this week, because if Washington hangs around in keeps it close we suddenly are a top 10 team.........

OK, I can live with that. We'll just have to wait until more games have been played. If you read the rant most people have questions about this team. And who really cares what he says?

We should win the next two games and with games 4 & 5 we should really be able to tell if we're a top 10 team.

How about just being a journalist and making random statements that they are not accountable for anyway. He can always just retract it and say - wow I goofed.

If you treat each year as a fresh new start - We are probably amongst the very few teams to have 2 victories against D1 teams, that too D1 teams belonging to the BCS 6 conferences.

UF gets a current NC pass therefore the directional sisters of the blind don't matter

USC traveled and won at OSU, therefore San Jose state doesn't matter and besides they are USC

UT - ULM and wyoming - enough said

Alabama - beat VT but gets a mulligan for their horrible play against FIU( remember this is the beginning of the season we don't know if VT is going to finish in the top 5/10 - we felt good beating AU last year but both of us fell down)

Penn State - beat Akron and Syracuse

Ole Miss - beat Memphis and had a BYE

BYU - beat a depleted OU and powerhouse Tulane

Cal - beat Maryland and some East Washington

I am not demanding top 10 status for LSU - but just like 2007 - name me others who have in these 2 weeks earned that honor more than we did. We deserve a mulligan for playing an Away Opener as well a rainwashed home as first two games. We automatically discount the two teams that we played as the worst possible ones and therefore we don't bother to see if the others actually have played better two teams at this point

To continue after our rank

Boise - beat Oregon(how good are they anyway?) and Miami of Ohio

OSU - we saw their Navy performance and USC loss - So if Navy wins 9 games and USC wins 10 then yes they played two great games otherwise it is no better.

I am not saying that we are a great team - I am merely stating that given the small subset of first two games of this season - our work seems to be no less than most of the others'.

LSU is a paper top 10. Noway is the LSU team that I saw the last 2 weeks close to being top 10. Make all the excuses you want, they aren't top 10. Possibly top 15-20, but def. not top 10.

Accuracy and common sense aside, I hate to see articles like that out there.

How bad would it suck to go undefeated and then be held out of the NCCG because this article is floating around. Why can't he write that we're worthy of a top 5 spot to solidify our chances of a BCS game?

Hating on? Hating, not hating? Either way he's right. Let's blow USL out by a ton and then we can talk.

No it didn't. Two and half inches at most following a 6 week long drought. The field conditions can't be blamed on LSU's average performance against a mediocre team.

LSU is overrated.

I was not making an excuse - I was stating FACTS.

We are not playing like we used to in previous dominant years - I am asking you WHO in your opinion DESERVES to be higher than us?

It is quite natural to be disappointed when we have set high standards for us but we are not seeing the forest for the trees and vice versa.

The other teams have not demonstrated a wonderful body of work either.

Each team is new and fresh every year for bad or for worse - did you see Tate Forcier play with confidence and Michigan's offense which was non-existent is now suddenly a powerful asset? Oregon was supposed to contend for the Pac10 title - they seem to be quite a bit discomfited now.

AGAIN this is NOT about our performance - it is in comparison to how others fared and I think given this extremely small set - we are where we should be give or take a few spots (mostly give).

I don't mind winning ugly for the rest of the season. Did the Auburn team of 2004 blow everybody out? I think they finished undefeated. Let's wait and see how the games unfold...winning ugly is still a win.

Can't argue with that at all.

Still,we're not that far away from being a legit top 10 team ,either. Look at some of the game two results from some of our conference brethren as well . The team Ole Miss slopped around with for three weeks last week, was beaten soundly by Middle Tennessee. Georgia's 'gutty performance' vs "top 10" Okie State doesn't look so sterling after Houston ran circles around them. Florida International ,a truly dreadful team, gave Alabama all it wanted for three quarters.

No doubt LSU has some work to do. And,the sooner the better. But if you are really going to be honest in dissecting LSU's miscues and focusing on the negative, you need to take a peek at some of our conference rivals and do the same thing with them, too.
