Great article about the 1983 LSU/Washington game.

quote:

“They finished 4-7 that year, and they just waxed us,” said Jaeger. “The noise is what I remember the most. We played at Michigan the following season. Their place held more fans but wasn’t anywhere near as noisy. Oregon, in our conference, could be loud. But the atmosphere at LSU was different from anything I’d ever experienced at a college road game.

“I can still see that tiger before the game.”

I remember that game well.
I sat on the 40 yard line near some UW fans, and they were shell-shocked.

that was the first LSU football game i attended. we had to get tickets in the washington section, but that made taunting the huskies as they took the field even easier.

I remember some of their fans fainting at the sight of the arse kicking.

One fan was crying "please make it stop" Seems like they hadn't seen real football out west and were having culture shock

I was in that student section, and can confirm being drunk at some point in the 2nd half...

Was in the Student Section, third of ten yrs at LSU. The attendance figures was 82K+, the then largest crowd ever in Tiger Stadium. Capacity at the time was 78K. Student Section was crowded, we had to turn sideways to get people out of the aisle for the marshalls. One of the most enjoyable games I attended in my time at LSU. UW came in highly ranked and got beaten down. Voice was sore until Thursday that week. Will be at the game in Seattle this weekend, cannot wait.

I remember it well. I was in the pressbox and after the game nearly everyone figured Stovall might have gotten over the hump. Obviously, he did not.
