the pressure this year? It's one thing to sneak up on teams, and the Rebs played with a chip on their shoulder last year...But, when now they are expected to do well, and everyone else is coming after them, will they hold up! Nutt, IMHO, always seems to motivate his teams which are underdogs..But, can he now play as the favorite!!
I really think we will have another "georgia syndrome" this year!! :)))

The will sneak up on no one. They will shite and fall back in it. If they lose less than 4 games I'll be surprised.

They've got potential to do well. I say, no, though.

They don't have enough talent to flourish this year. Although they are the media darlings to do well in the SEC west this year, virtually no one gives them any chance at a NC. Why? Because they have not recruited well enough to have talent on par with on of the 6 or 7 top teams in the country who have the only realistic shot at the NC game. They have a great QB and some nice skill players and some nice linemen. But a top 22 anywhere close to FLA, GA, LSU and ALA? Not even close.

They will lose at least once and maybe twice to some marginal team this year and blow their best shot at success with a schedule that will likely be the best one they will have in a long time.

They lose 3 SEC games minimum. I'd be surprised if it were just that.

Houston Nutt is a coach with a great track record of coaching mediocre programs into solid relevance. Every now and then, he'll even lead such a program to a 10 win season.

But to judge from his record, he doesn't have a track record of top 10 finishes. Neither does Ole Miss.

I look for Ole Miss this year to be a huge, huge bust. Oh sure...the might be solid. They might even give LSU fits (or even beat LSU) or even contend for the SEC title.

But a top 10 finish? Unlikely.

If they are half as good as predictions there schedule alone will prevent 4+ losses..

@ Memphis - Win
vs. SLU - Win
@ South Carolina - Questionable/Probable Win
@ Vanderbilt - Win
vs. Bama - Questionable/Probable Loss
vs. UAB - Win
vs. Arkansas - Questionable/Probable Win
@Auburn - Win
vs. Northern Arizona - Win
vs. Tennessee - Win
vs. LSU - Probable Loss
@Miss. State - Win

The schedule is a joke..
IF anyone can show me where they will lose 4 I'd be impressed..

OK...possible losses, SC, Vandy, Bama, Ark, LSU, Aub and possibly Tenn. It's not a matter of choking, its a matter of quality of talent throughout the lineup. They have not had overwhelming recruiting classes, not at the level you need to have superior talent to the majority of SEC teams. Besides Snead, their talent is on a par with Ark, Aub, Tenn and SC...not the top tier teams. When that is the case, when you have your "down" games as every team does....your lack of talent that is overwhelming to your opposition causes a loss. That is how they lost the games they lost last year and how they will lose them this year.

They have plenty of talent. The only position where they may not matchup with the top of the SEC is the OL. As I've said for months, that position will tell the tale for them. Ole Miss doesn't exactly have a lot of bluechips lined up to replace Oher.

Orgeron had great recruiting classes.. which is what Nutt is working with now.. Maybe not top tier.. but not far behind..

Fine.. every SEC team has 8 "possible losses".. do you really think Ole Miss will drop all of those? Tennessee?? lost to wyoming last year... and had the 117th best offense... I don't see any new supermen on their squad?? do you? Vandy?? BIG.. MAYBE... Snead was inexperienced for that game last year.. it'll be a much different game this time around..
BAMA, Arkansas, are certainly possible losing scenarios.. Auburn not so much..

Just as a vague point of reference.. we beat SC and Auburn last year.. and then Ole Miss throttled us...

I'm not blowing Ole Miss.. I'm just saying they don't suck... and their schedule is to die for.. I can't see them losing 4 or more..

I say they lose 2-3 games. Their OL will not be the problem. They have the best OL coach on the country.

Markuson's OLs never pass protected that well at Arky. Now that they have a QB and are trying to win the division, they need an OL that can pass protect. Plus, he doesn't have "his recruits" in there.

i posted this on the SEC rant the other day:

quote:

The biggest problem for the Rebs is the losing culture in Oxford. Just like the Cubs when it comes down to it, they probably have the best team, but everyone in their fanbase expects them to frick it up again. How many times has yall's baseball team choked and not gone to Omaha, when yall had the clearly superior team?

i have friends in chicago (huge cubs fans), and every year they will kick arse all season, but when it gets to playoff time, the whole city expects to lose...and they do! I see the same thing with the Ole Miss fanbase...its just too much pressure.

the team, the university and the entire city of oxford will be feeling the pressure this year and it will show on the field. Until they prove otherwise i have to assume it will happen again.

Vandy has won 3 out of the last 4. I'd hardly say thats a sure win.
