How improved will UW be in 2009?

One thing is for sure, first year coach Steve Sarkisian has his work cut out for him. Jack Locker being healthy will certainly give the offense a shot in the arm. In 2008, UW finished 116 in total offense and 110 in total defense. The Huskies finished 117 in scoring offense and 116 in scoring defense.
Here's their schedule:
LSU
Idaho
USC
@Stanford
@Notre Dame
Arizona
@Arizona State
Oregon
@UCLA
@Oregon State
Washington State
California
This is obviously relevent because UW's overall performance will have an effect on LSU's SOS. UW should beat Idaho, and they should also have a great shot at Washington State. After that, they will likely be an underdog in their remaining 10 games. So, if they can pull off two upsets, they are looking at 4-8.

You fail to realize that the team quit on Losingham two years in a row... those stats are a little skewed...

So, what kind of record are you expecting this season? Would you be ok with 3-8 if the kids are playing hard?

they should win 2 maybe 3. Which as sad as it seems is, in fact, an improvement.

2-10, 3-9, 4-8, doesn't matter what there record is, this game wont help us in any crazy formula...
just win all of our games and we'll be fine

Trying to improve from an 0-12 season shouldn't be too difficult. Better UW went 0-12 last year rather than this year.

While I understand your point, UW going 4-8 would obviously be more beneficial to LSU than them going 0-12. One thing that 2007 taught us is that every game can be crucial...

I expect 6-6 and a minor bowl. Will we get there? I have no idea but that is the minimum expectations for this year.
We should always expect 8 wins every year. I realize that's not going to be attainable after the train wreck that following Neuheisel.
But there is no reason we can't compete and beat 6 of the following: WSU, Idaho, Stanford, UCLA, Arizona, Arizona State, or Notre Dame.
A win over LSU, SC, Cal, Oregon or Oregon State will need to be a huge upset but I see no reason why we can't get 1 of those...

wow, those are some pretty lofty expectations coming off an 0-12 campaign. I bet most people outside of Husky land would consider 4-8 a step in the right direction.

Expect 8 wins every year at UW? Really?

ehh maybe... but if we take 3 out of 4 from Georgia, Alabama, Ole Miss, and Florida everybody will forget about our OOC, b/c that beside itself is pretty damn impressive, and will definitely put us in the hunt for a national championship birth

wow really? do you expect the detroit lions to win the super bowl as well?

Why should I think otherwise? We aren't Arizona or WSU...
Our new coach also has stated that he won't take a mulligan. We have more talent than 0-12 and a new attitude may make a huge difference. Losing to BYU by 1 point on an excessive celebration penalty, losing our star QB, and having Losingham as our coach took the wind out of the sails. But there is no reason to say we shouldn't be able to compete or should expect less.
The dumbing down of expectations is what led us to the current situtation....

Well, I applaud your optimism. Outside of the opener, I hope you guys win them all.

you think you can get back to that level (or higher) with the rise of some of the other Pac 10 schools? how's recruiting doing under Sark?

TREMENDOUSLY!
Here's a couple of things to consider. First, UW is a proud football program. They aren't some program that has always been lousy. They are good. They have tradition.
Second, they have a new head coach. A new staff. This means there is a whole new mindset on campus. A mindset that wants to erase that 0-12 season.
Third, Jake Lockler is one of the most underrated QBs in the nation.
Put this all together and you have a UW team that'll be hungry come Sept. 5, but so will LSU.
It's the first game of the year so both teams will be rusty. I'll still go with LSU winning 31-14.
Note: Behind LSU for best uniforms is UW for sure.
