1.2 Million per ZVR himself.
Would have loved for him to be a tiger, but can't blame the kid for taking that kind of money.
Best of luck.

So much for all the haters saying he didn't have the arm to be in the pro's with his 90 MPH fastball.

do you think colvin will sign if the phillies offer 200,000 after seeing what von rosenburg got.i wouldnt.

The Phillies are making plenty of more bank than usual as WorldF'ingChampions, selling plenty of garb and gear, and recently cleared some minor league dinero when hocking four of their guys for Cliff Lee..
LSU better hope they don't make one last offer..
I'm a Phils and LSU fan..thus conflicted a tad..but would still much rather LSU land him.

I know Colvin and I'm almost positive he is going to sign.

I know Zack, and he wants to be a Tiger. I know Zack and his family followed LSU to the CWS. I know Zack, and he would rather play for LSU.
Blah, fricking Blah. Money ALWAYS wins out. I'm happy for the kid, but can we all learn a lesson from this.......Y'all don't know shite!!

I had the dollar figure last night but it's all good though

I posted this on the recruiting board, but it got moved to the rant.
ZVR really wanted to play for LSU and he was getting really excited about it. I don't think anyone foresaw Pittsburg pulling out that kind of money to lock him down.
Please keep the negativity down. I can't imagine anyone passing up that kind of opportunity. 1.2 million dollars could pay for a lot more than an LSU education.

You just can't turn down that kind of money. It sucks, but Pittsburgh essentially drove a Brinks truck full of money to his house.
Good luck in the pros, kid.

I can't either, but a lot of retards around here have assured us he wouldn't do this. It's a complete waste of everyone's time. Good for Zach, and good luck.

1M was the rumored request, at 1.2M compounded at simple interest for an 17 yr old, plus minor league salary..
College and some of real-life is already secured, without risking injury and/or not panning out by the end of a college career..a no-brainer for ZVR and family.
Josh Booty obviously made the right call outta high school..did Jon Zeringue?

If he wants to go to college he should easily have the money for it. We might not like it, but this is clearly the best decision for him.

+1
Zack used LSU to leverage the money he wanted out of the Pirates. Good for him. Good luck to him in the bus leagues over the next 3-4 years.
I hope he ends up on the cover of Sports Illustrated.
But people need to STFU about how this kid has "always wanted to be a Tiger". He had his chance to be one and $1.2 million persuaded him otherwise. So even though that's a lot of money for a kid to pass up, he apparently didn't want to be a Tiger all THAT badly.

If offered 1.2M at age 17..I suspect that the vast majority of LSU's 2009 CWS Champs..may have never wore Tiger gear.

But he was right at late first round money. It doesn't really matter where a kid is drafted because "signability" determines a player's position more than anything.

And you're probably right.
But if you can be bought off for $1.2 million (or any price for that matter) don't talk to me how you would have liked to pursue your "lifelong dream". It rings a bit hollow. We don't need the BS platitudes because YOU think they'll make everybody feel better. Just take your money and move on.

I'm pretty sure his interest in LSU was genuine and that he wasn't using them solely to drive up his asking price.

This statement is pretty ridiculous.
