"This year they're going to get to see a first-round draft pick," Meachem promised. "The last two years, that's been somebody else."

It appears he may beat out Devery for the 3rd spot. Regardless, he will get plenty of PT this year.

According to the time value of money theory, what is a 1st round pick actually worth in year 3 considering he wasn't able to contribute at all Year 1 and did pretty alright in Year 2?

Haven't we heard this same song and dance before? Good play in camp doesn't translate to good play in games. However, he still beats out Henderson.

I thought Devery was the #2 receiver.

A hobbled Lance Moore would still be a better #2 than Devery

There's been a great debate on whether Devery is a capable #2 guy:

I think it's pretty obvious that it goes Colston, Moore, Henderson, Meachem.

not from here, the last 2 years he's been very disappointing in camp, basically getting bashed

Besides, the only reason that people are swinging from Arrington's nuts is from his camp last year...

When you run as many 3-4 wr sets as we do, arguing who is the second and third wr is pointless. IMHO.

sounds like a good problem to have...

The #2 guy definitely get more reps...Also, the Saints use many different player packages so the those 3-4 WR sets will have Reggie or Shockey in those spots sometimes

Well, I guess you would consider his payments in years 1 and 2 sunk costs.
So, his value would be how well the coaches think he will perform based on his play in camp.

What plenty of you seem to forget is that the WR position historically is one that takes, for some strange reason, 3 years to blossom. While there have been the rare gems that shine in years 2 or even 1, most WR's are judged based on their 3rd year of play. The "experts" opine on this all the time, so I think we should have faith and wait to see what this season brings for Meach.
Now I'm not saying that I think he'll be great this year, but I do think we should give him the benefit of the doubt and not rip him just yet. The guy has been and is a very dedicated and hard worker who is just a little slow in the cranium. I was never a fan of the pick myself, but I love the guy's attitude, love the Saints and am really behind him developing into a weapon for our team.
So let's sit back, chill, drink some whiskey and let the season unfold before we do the rip on Meach threads. Remember, 3 years for WR's....

You lead a very convincing argument. You, of course, get bonus points for your humorous name and pictures of women.
I agree with you completely on every level. I, despite the UT homer sway, thought it was a terrible pick. I was suprised he went into the draft at all, much less got picked first round. I recall some good play in the preseason, although i dont know if he was playing against a backup D or not. I wouldnt write him off yet.
Also, ive never heard of this 3-year thing for receivers. Can you give examples?
