No flame intened but you are correct. My dad told me the 65,000 (of the 250,00 who claimed to have witnessed Cannons run) was the loudest he can remember!!

1987 - Game was a tie. Great game, though. Ohio State was great that year.

1979 vs. USC. It was a constant roar the whole game, The intensity was amazing within that crowd.

This is so true! I heard Cannon himself say one time that if he had a dollar for everyone whose told him they were in TS that night, he'd have never had to print his own.

I've made almost every home game since 1968.

By far, it was 79 USC. Not even close. What's amazing is that it was done with a lot fewer people than now.

Check out the 1979 USC roster. Loaded with All-Americans and a few Hall of Famers. We took them to the wall, and should have won, except for a terrible "phantom call" that gave USC a first down on their final drive.

They had 3 NFL Hall of Famers (Lott, M. Allen, Munoz)
Two Heisman winners (M. Allen, C. White)
One Lombardi winner (Brad Budde)
And possibly one Hall of Fame NFL coach (Jeff Fisher)

LSU had them...and let them get away. Benji Thibodeaux face mask.

This... before the game when Ohio state refused to take the field first... and I have been to every game mentioned with the exception of the USC game.

That was a great game, but it was too damn hot to be the loudest ever. I remember seeing tons of people at the first aid stations.

Earl Bruce stood at the gate with his arms folded refusing to let his team go to the field until LSU went to wash out the boo's. Speilman and Andelsek almost fought during the coin toss....and later became close on the Lions. Bo Pelini played for Ohio State that day.

Sustained noise was the Tenn. shootout

I wasn't at the '79 USC game, but I'll take everyone else's word on that. However, the 2000 Tennessee game had the most sustained noise of any game I attended since 1982. There is not a close second.
