I know. But that stadium would change things.

For Baton Rouge to even have a chance to support a team, it would have to be AA.
I agree with this.
New Orleans is barely floating the Zephyrs, and they are Triple-A. Their parent club changes every year, which makes them even harder to follow.

Take out the "the" and I think you would be correct.

Stadium or no stadium, there just are not enough dates on the calendar for a team to survive here. The minor league season runs from mid-April til the end of August. With LSU baseball playing home games until early June most years, that knocks out almost 2 months right there. I know they could schedule games when LSU isn't playing, but do you really think people are going to go to 2 LSU games AND 2-3 minor league games in the same week? School starts in early August. Parents/kids won't turn out much once school gets back in. That leaves about a month and a half where the minor league team would have "exclusivity" in Baton Rouge. That simply isn't enough to make it viable. Plus, I think the city of BR has more important things to spend money on than a minor league stadium, and I don't see that money coming from the private sector.

Skip Bertman was in Austin a couple weeks back at a minor league game. He threw out the first pitch at the Round Rock Express (triple A Astros affiliate)game. The LSU alumni association in Austin set up a short meet and greet with him.
I was able to shake his hand and take a picture with him and my daughter. He talked to us(alumni) for about half an hour. And he was mentioning the fact that he was talking to the Express about getting a triple A team started in Baton Rouge. I'm not sure about any time table, but he said that he was inquiring about it.

I trust Skip over you.
But you make valid points.

If Baton Rouge ever gets a minor league team, eventually I will be the one running things in the office. Book it.

I don't doubt that he might be trying to get minor league baseball in general to come here, just not Triple-A. Double-A, maybe.

Citing ignorance on my part...
but what is the major difference between triple A and double A? Why would one be feasable but not the other?

I do believe LSU is a big factor in any of these decisions - it's basically BR's pro team and is supported as such.
But another factor is that all the behind the scenes stuff when it comes to redeveloping that riverfront. The minor league stadium was one idea, the thing with Audubon was another - nothing ever - or rarely gets off the ground.
I truly believe there's some folks who want to make sure they get a piece of whatever pie gets baked there, and when they don't, they make damn sure the dough doesn't rise.
And then there's the whole inferiority complex I think Baton Rouge has over New Orleans, but that's another post for another day.

I'll run the clubhouse.

I used to work with the BR River Bats and Blue Marlins. Not too many sell-outs. Pretty much just the first game or two of each season and if there was a major promotion. Most nights, it was the same 50-100 fans, mostly consisting of players' families.

of course

I am pulling a little of this out of my arse, but my speculation is that the cost of running a minor league team rises as the level increases, based on salaries and other operating expenses. The lower level minor leagues are in smaller towns...there are AAA teams in such large markets as Indianapolis, Memphis, New Orleans, Fresno, Nashville, etc. Just a guess.
