Minor League Baseball in Baton Rouge

Has the city ever tried to bring a minor league baseball team to Baton Rouge?

I'd like to see it, but it would never work out.
ETA: There was a proposed plan in around 2003 for their to be a city park downtown with a baseball stadium included on the river, but that never went through.

Yea we've had the River Bats and the Marlins, but I think he means an actual single-A or double-A team that doesn't play their games at Golsby Field.

it's been named that since about 96

Yeah. But to have something like pro baseball in town in between the CWS and football season would be nice.

Excellent link. I wanted to post it but I'm not at my computer.
I wish that would have gone through, but it would be very hard for BR to support a baseball team between LSU baseball and football even with a brand new stadium.

I would most definitely get season tickets. And you know they would be cheap too.
It could be worked out though. The team could never play a home series the same weekend LSU has a home SEC baseball series or the weekend of an LSU football game. But hell, for 2 months in the summer it would be something fun to do.

And yes, that stadium location would be fricking fantastic. A view of the bridge over the center field fence? I would jizz myself.

I think BR could support one. I was in asheville the other day and went to their teams game. Sat behind home plate (1st row) for 5 bucks. There were maybe 30 people there, and they have been around since the Ruth days.

Minor league baseball, even if it was AA level, would never work here. There just isn't enough disposable income, nor is there enough time to play a season that doesn't overlap with LSU sports.
Baton Rouge just doesn't go for second-rate, minor league stuff. The Kingfish, Marlins, Bayou Beast, RiverBats, and Bayou Bombers agree with this statement.

I believe the Baton Rouge metro area would support it. It's not like it'll be a 30,000 seat stadium. Hell, even Alexandria of all places has the Aces.

The Baton Rouge Bombers were the shite. I remember we used to beat the frick out of the rugrats. Hell yea.

Yeah...what else ya gonna do in A-town? There is too much else to do here...and like I said, the disposable income is more devoted to LSU baseball/football.

They are independent league. For Baton Rouge to even have a chance to support a team, it would have to be AA.
