I guess this could be one of the better position battles. Anybody got any scoop on either of the two this summer?

Jai looks the part and hopefully can play the part if the time comes.

Jai was the starter in Spring, I don't expect that to be any different. Pretty sure nobody is going to pass Peterson. Thank god these new coaches aren't playing Seniority first like the other two morons.

Hawkins is extremely athletic but he has literally no physicality in his game and it hurt us way more than Jai did last year. Jai got burned on about two or three MAJOR plays last year. Hawkins routinely missed tackles, couldn't get off blocks, little run support and was inconsistent in coverage. He got burned way more than Jai.

Seniority is definitly overated for college. Maybe not HighSchool, but difenitly college.

This starting CB question has been talked about for a long time and its safe to say that about 90% of TigerFans would rather Jai Eugene that Chris Hawkins. But I have a feeling that they both will play a lot anyways.

the coaches clearly love Hawkins ..I guess it's because he probably does everything right in practice, etc

but he has the talent of a CB who should be at ULM or somewhere

Any time an opponent needed a big play last year they picked on Hawkins and got the big play 95% of the time...he's a major weakness in terms of a cover guy in our defensive backfield

Jai has far more upside..I would love to see him play more than Hawkins but I have a bad feeling they'll stick with Hawk

If I was Chad Jones I would take my first step towards Hawkins' side of the field on damn near every passing situation because he is likley to get picked on...PP can hold his own on the other side

I got nailed on this a while back, but I would go with Eugene because he is the better athlete, he is more fluid in the hips and runs with receivers better and everything, last year he just lacked experience, now that he has that i expect him to be better. but I'm sure folks on here will go with hawkins because he is supposed to be the more experienced CB, he had a couple pics last year in one game and it made him look better than he really is.

I think Brandon Taylor can turn out to be a stud.

No. You're just incorrect in your analysis. I think Hawkins did well in coverage for a first time starter. He was weak in run support.

Jai is the reverse of that.

Hawkins got burned numerous times in coverage, you definitely need your eyesight checked, he plays 10 yards off a receiver and still gets burned, the lone exception was that one game I mentioned were he got a couple of pics because of the terrible SEC QB, I forget his name that kept tryin to force it in there telepathically to the receiver.

Eugene didn't get burned as much because they pulled him on passing downs.

yeah, he got roasted pretty frickin bad

even shitty teams roasted him

I know our defensive scheme was shite last year and we didn't get great coaching -- but that doesn't excuse the number of times Hawkins was engaged in man coverage and just got embarrassed by opposing WRs

I believe it was you that argud with me the last time about Hawkins if memory serves me correctly. and I still disagree with you, you and Rocket are two stubborn nukes, and to answer what you said above, he didn't get burned as much, Eugene that is because he split PT with Peterson. Why they had him splitting PT with Peterson I'll never know because he should have been splitting time with Hawkins, at least they could have taking turns getting burned. Eugene is a much better athlete than Hawkins ever will be, he played QB in HS ahead of Jefferson if you can believe that as well as numerous other positions, I watched him play receivers at the line last year, he wasn't afraid, but he just didn't know how to keep up with them, this year he should be better.

If I'm not mistaken it was USCe! The best defensive game all of last year.

You are mistaken. He INT two in the Auburn game, almost had three.

Someone correct me but I thought the battle was between Patrick Peterson and Jai Eugene on the right side and Chris Hawkins and Brandon Taylor on the left side?
