Im a HUGE Mississippi High School Football fan, and would also like to learn more about some teams over in Louisiana. Ive been to the Superdome a couple of times to watch the State Championships. I am aware of Louisiana Powerhouses such as John Curtis, Evangel Christian, Bastrop, and West Monroe. Who are supposed to be the teams to beat for the upcoming season?

Id love to see more Mississippi vs. Louisiana matchups in HS football.
I am suprised that more schools near the MS gulf coast dont play teams near Slidell.

Also in that list: Park View Baptist of Baton Rouge and Destrehan.

I have heard of Destrehan, they have really come on recently. Also know that Ruston HS used to be pretty good back in the day.

Do many Louisiana HS have turf fields? I know that West Monroe does from watching that reality show that was on ESPN 2 years ago. Most of the bigger schools in MS (especially on the Gulf Coast and Hattiesburg) have turf fields.

I know West Jeff does and that's where most teams on the westbank play.

Mississippi's HS talent is very good now.. Probably the best it has ever been.. but they would have got skull frucked in the late 90's and early 2000's by any of the Louisiana Power Houses. There's is no doubt in my mind.

The biggest football powerhouse in Mississippi is South Panola HS 20 miles outside of Oxford. They had one of the longest winning streaks in america last year at 89 games until they lost to Meridian in the 5A state championship. They always produce D1 talent but because of Poor Academics very few qualify.

South Panola is good no doubt, but they are as old as the system allows them to be and they hold like a mothafricker. but hey if you can get away with it.. it's all gravy.
I'm glad Meridian (altho a highly racist team) beat them.. Just wish it had been Oak Grove last season, bc we had the best shot ever. but we always get shite luck and end up having to travel to Meridian.. where we get shite calls.. even if we beat them at their house previously in the season.. The home field advantage system in Mississippi HS makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. The South State Championship has nothing to do with who beat who or where the regular season game was played.
South Panola was really the only elite school of the early 2000s. I don't care who else had decent records.. they would have gotten annihilated against any of the top 5-10 Louisiana teams. The talent level was a tremendous difference.
Mississippi is on such a rise talent wise the past 4-5 years and I'm highly impressed.

So who were the other top teams other than West Monroe, Evangel, and John Curtis back in the 90's and early 2000's.
I agree with you about the Mississippi pool of talent going up in football. I also think it is because of the growth of recruiting and Rivals and Scout camps. Small school kids in MS that previously were over looked are now being found.

Not neccessarily. Moss Point had WM down 14-0 at the half in 2000, one of the years WM won the mythical national title. WM came back to win 28-23, but it was a great game. That's the same WM team that beat Midland Lee with Cedric Benson/Eric Winston 36-8 and Curtis 25-7.

Hahnville and Destrehan have turf fields. EJ and WJ have them too; many teams use those fields.
