Your Thoughts On This Years Recruiting So Far?

good thoughts or bad thoughts. Any 5*'s coming or players that you think will become 5*'s later in the year? Which player should we concentrate on getting, the most? How many offers are still available?

Pretty damn solid so far. Could be something REALLY special with a few big names.

This year is the first time I've really questioned recruits that are commits so far.
Houston Bates
Cameron Fordham
Dexter Blackmon
What's going on with Storm? Why isn't he a commit?
Storm>>>>>>>>Blue
The only thing that i can think of is that Blackmon and Blue would be greyshirts, but that would knock the numbers down from next year....quite possibly the strongest year in La in a long time. So, I really am lost as to what is going on here lately. That, or LSU has told Blue that he has a conditional offer. Being if they lose out on recruits, he would be the one to get it. In other words, non-committable.

VERY satisfied. If we pull a top 5-10 this year, with the talent coming in 2011, that leaves a continued dynasty-type since the earlier part of the decade.

At first is seemed a little slow with relatively unheralded players...then it really picked up over the summer. The last couple of unknown names somewhat puzzel me, but I think it's actually a good idea for Les to get a good, coachable player and bring him into the fold, rather than waiting on a 5* and missing out alltogether.

Have to agree with ya prom. I don't think anyone is clear on what the coaches are thinking at this point. Maybe Miles is looking at it from a standpoint that if he's right with these guys, he'll look like a genius, but if wrong, this guarantees future attrition. Who knows at this point. I still think the class will be very solid and a top 10 class, just hoping we land a few more guys I've heard of.

I'm not sure why this is the first year, Prom.
In 2008, he took a bunch of players who weren't highly rated early on in the process, including Theriot, Rockey D, and Ryan St. Julien very early on.
In 2009, he did it at the end of the year, with Johns, Barrow, Logan, and Claiborne (granted the last 2 have gotten rave reviews), when there were still lots of players considering LSU.
This year, it seems like he is basing it off of performances in camp (Bates, Fordham, Blackmon, Mathieu).
Some players are truly hidden gems who shoot up in the ratings, while others never really make much sense and just increase numbers.

i think we are strongly in the running for 5* Seastrunk..I also think that Trovon will be a 5* before it is all said and done...I think that we need to concentrate on Reed the most. He is the top wideout in the state(from most people's perspectives, anyway) and one hell of an athlete. Both he and Lache are gamebreakers, but this guy is from not far down the road, and we need to get him.]
I also think DT Byran Davis is one we should take. I know spots are running thin, but we've got to have a couple of solid d linemen this year. Dickson's little brother would be very important too.

Can't complain one bit. Miles is easily one of the Top5 recruiters in the country, and he is proving it in this recruiting class.

this is where I differ from everyone else on this board. I don't think he's worthy of an extra star. 5.8 seems about right to me.

Solid class, not spectacular so far. Couple of ? marks, but only because I don't know enough about the committs. Don't think you will see many commitments until much later, pretty sure Les and co. will be stingy with the remaining slots. I hope, at least.
But, what is up with the RB recruiting trauma/drama? Richardson, Pratt, Storm, Michael, Lacy.......? Seems that one position is an enigma. Grades, character...etc...I know, but seems like its an on going drama.

Next year is the money year for recruits. There's no disputing that fact. However, the recruiting effort this year, in an off year for talent in the state, has exceeded my expectations. Most of this years class will need a redshirt year. As I look at the list, only Hardrick and Worle seem likely to see significant time in 2010. However, looking down the road, considering the elite players from the 2009 class and potential elite players from the 2011 class, the 2010 players may very well make the difference in winning a National Title again. They will fill in the holes between two monster classes and add depth. Potential stars like Maclin, Hunter, Allen, Washington, Vinson and Reed could make all the difference.

Read this entire thread and was waiting for someone to say this. I think this classes athletes are just what LSU needed across the board. This class will probably not contain any 5*s but will contain more then enough talent people to push last years, and hopefully next years stars. Not saying Les is putting together a hell of a scout team, but am saying he is putting pieces together that will fill some future gaps so that we don't have any major weaknesses.
The only problem I do see is the # of kids. But after many questionable moments I have learned The Hat is right a hell of a lot more often then wrong. So will agree with his decisions until proven otherwise.

if we can get Lewis it will be our best LB class in years. no question that's an area we have had problems recruiting
obviously need to a quality RB..a speed back. Lache would solidify that area
always need quality on DLs ..might fall short of that this year

Very good Class - as for the unknowns - Maybe the coaches saw where they could significantly improve certain aspects of a recruits game. I'll go with the coaches. Blackmon might be exactly what I'd want in a DT against the spread!

lsu is doing a damn good job of recruiting for to say it's still early in the process when it's all said and done i think we will get 2 or 3 5 star players

Interesting outside perspective on LSU FB recruiting from the Austin newspaper:
Stacked with chips
Mack Brown is a recruiting machine, but LSU can match Texas bluechip for bluechip. Since Nick Saban brought the program back to life, then Les Miles picked up the baton, check out LSU's consensus recruiting rankings: No. 1 (2003); No. 2 (2004); No. 7 (2006); No. 5 (2007); No. 10 (2008); No. 2 (2009). In 2005, the Tigers had only 13 scholarships. Scout.com puts LSU at No. 5 for 2010. Texas, naturally, is No. 1.
