I am having no luck recovering data off this thing. I have it hooked up to a USB drive and have tried both windows and mac softwares. Tried Drive Genius. Disk Util will not complete a scan.
Ugh. Tons of useful documents on that drive. Any advice?

To be fair, it was an after-market drive I put in there a year and half ago. A Toshba 200gb, 7200rpm drive from back when that was top of the line. After this one died, I put the original 80gb drive back in.

I'm not a mac fan boy. I got it back in grad school because it was small and was designed in such a way that made it easy to stick in my backpack, along with books. I wound up having to bootcamp windows on it for Microsoft Office. It is an older white macbook and it has been through a lot.
