In response to a thread about Hallman earlier, what was the story with his notorious philandering?

Wasn't he caught with co-eds, cheerleaders, or something like that? Not bad for such a crummy coach not even very good looking.

I don't think the rumor is true. It seems like every time a coach is nearing the end of their reign, someone has to try to add an exclamation mark to it with a rumor like this. Brady and Saban both had similar rumors. It happens at all schools--Richard Williams and Mike DuBose are a couple of SEC coaches that had to put up with this kind of stuff. Notice that whenever someone spreads such a rumor that they heard it from the friend of a friend of a friend of a friend of the coach. In other words, it's just "hearsay"...

What that man did to me was much, much worse. Not sure he had much time for philandering. He had the whole LSU football program bent over and taking it for his entire tenure.

I had the chance to meet MR Hallman, He is dumb as rocks. He is also uglier than hell, I cannot see any co ed want to be with him. I think mostly it was from him going to parties he should not have.

Hallman was terrible, but at least his recruiting was better than Archers...talking about milking a program for all it's worth...

Thank God for Dinardeaux (I'm having second thoughts about this statement as we speak)

hallman's wife, dale, busted him with his 20-year old secretary and kicked him out of the house .. threw all of his clothes and belongings on the lawn in riverbend .. quite embarrasing .. but hallman was a helluva lot better recruiter than archer was .. in fact, hallman didn't have shite to work with in his first two seasons -- not that it would have mattered -- because of archer .. in his last two years, he had some talent but just proved to be a horrible coach .. dinardo went to shite as soon as hallman's 1993 class left ... but as far as jokes for head coaches go .. mike archer takes the cake ...

I'm just taking Tigah's word on this one, but if in fact the LSU Football Head Coach lived in Riverbend (not talking about Laurel Lakes behind it), that says a lot about the state of LSU Football when he was hired. I know that Riverbend has some very fine homes, but seriously, a major D-1 coach should be able to do better, no?

archer never should have got the job.
Steve Spurrior should have got it.
they only hired archer because that is who the players wanted.
NOW Archer would be a good hire for someone. he is older and wiser.

You are on point about Hallman's extracurriculars (I know for fact).......Archer's recruiting, not so much. The 1990 class was a bit rough but the other prior classes were solid (he got 8/10 top recruits in the state plus a few good Tx kids). Hallman was a far inferior coach. Besides, how old are you? I didn't think you were old enough to have insight that far back.....not a jab.

+1
Archer was too young at the time, but the players wanted him as coach. He is a damn good coach, but he wasn't ready for the job.

A friend ran into Curly at KenStabler's bar in Mobile one summer, middle of the day, blitzed & from what the bartender told my friend, this was a regular occurance. His wife caught him more than a few times, the last time tracking him to an apt complex & catching him in the act as the saying goes. And she is a very attractive woman. The man had no morals.

Hallman took over in 1991. At that time in college football, the crazy high salaries that we see as commonplace today were unheard of. I would definitely not consider the fact of our coach living in Riverbend in the early 90's was a sign of anything greater, certainly not anything to be ashamed of...

Totally agree.....we could've used a wiser, father figure if you will. I did like him but he wasn't quite ready.

i personally drank with hallman at the tiger bar after 2 am. i never saw him fool around, but he did put him in some precarious situations.

archer got the job beacause that is who arnsparger chose, and joe dean couldnt make his own decision. archer wasnt, and isnt head coach material. decent def coordinator.

for everyone that bitches about losing a few recruits to other schools, remember dinardo/hallman/archer years. the little talent that signed had attitude issues. VERY little of that now. appreciate what you have

I've heard a slew of Hallman stories. One I heard was Hallman's now ex-wife Dale, who is an RN and attractive (what she saw in this clown is beyond me) got her hair cut at some "in" place in Baton Rouge. One day she said loud enough for anyone in there to hear something to the effect,"I could handle his first 19 girlfriends, but something about #20 put me over the top",and then supposedly a loosely kept secret spread all over Baton Rouge and beyond.

One of the supposed 'Curley's women' is still employed in the LSU football office.

And then of course there are the stories you hear from people having seen him in Gulf Shores,Pensacola, etc hammered at a bar telling anyone who would listen who he was and saying he was on the prowl.

Fine fellow.
