Strike Zone

Anyone else think that some of those outside strikes are a good bit off the plate?

it wouldve been fine if it was called like that all night, but it wasnt. ump was inconsistant. wasnt the reason we lost the game though, how about 0-8 with runners in scoring position.

You think they could find some better umps to work the world series. The strike zone has been all over the place for both teams.

from my perspective, umps tend to give guys the edges of the zone when they're on and hitting every spot. the ump isn't going to give you anything if he thinks you're just throwing it up there hoping to get a call.

That pitch being called is fine but he was very inconsistent with it. I don't think one LSU pitcher got that call all night yet he somehow managed to pull the trigger for Jungmann on more than a few occasions.
Like previously stated, that didn't cause us to lose last night but it surely didn't give our pitchers a fighting chance. When you're not getting that call you have to get the ball over the middle of the plate. It severely limits the way you set guys up.

I dont think in anyway it cost us the game, but its been all over the place. Some of those pitches are a good bit outside. And some low curve balls. Let the kids hit. As long as they call them that far out the pitchers are going to continue to throw that far out.

I'm guessing the Umps are Augie's drinking buddys.

Yes, I'll go ahead and be petty.
After reading some of the other fans posts about what a great pitching job Jungmen had...it could have ended up a lot differently had the Ump called a few of those "strikes" as what they really were. We were having to swing at everything, cuz almost everything was going to be a strike. The batters looked frustrated...and too many times were they looking back at the ump.
I can't agree with other posters who said we had the same strike zone. Maybe I'm too much of an LSU homer, but I felt that we couldn't catch a break. I saw many of the same outside and low balls called as strikes on the other side.
Enough with the petty shite. I try to never blame refs/umps for a loss.

The game was over after the 3rd pitch when the umpire squeezed Ross...Has anybody hear ever seen a squeeze that bad?

The calls do seem very one sided. Watch the replay LSU had some of the same pitches called balls.

the strike zone was pretty bad, although it didn't cost us the game. What hurt us was our guy leaving the bat on their shoulders.....all night

Not only the outside strike, but this one gave the low strike. Jungmann probably deserved some of the outside calls as he was on all night, but the umps are so inconsistent both ways.

Odd how no one complained about the umps the first 3 games in Omaha. It was the same umps. All of sudden we play one close game and then get our asses whipped in another and our fans start talking about the umps.
Stop with the excuses. You must have a liberal strike zone in college with aluminum bats. You also have an inconsistent strike zone from some because these guys aren't professionals.

Dont think the ump hasn't heard that TX has the best pitching staff in college baseball. It was in the back of his mind whether he wanted it to be or not. Just sayin - same reason high profile athletes always get calls.
But its not why we lost.

Wrong, they were inconsistent then, but we won, so it was of no consequence. It appears that they are feeling the pressure of the finals .. and it's both ways, not just to LSU.

I don't know, man. To subscribe to this theory is assuming quite a bit about the ump. The strike zone looked pretty inconstant to me as well, but for both teams. I guess it is possible that the ump is "conspiring" to give Texas the series. What else could it be; the guy just couldn't get it right when LSU was at bat?
I do believe that there is some weight to the "hitting your spots" theory. The LSU pictures were all over the place and your catcher did an outstanding job of avoiding 1 or 2 passed balls.

They laid off that pitch jungmann was throwing all night, it was a low and away fastball, very low but always seemed to be called a strike all night.
Hats off to texas and jungmann though, no excuses here. Thay played great.

it makes a helluva difference in batting in whether the first pitch is a a strike or a ball. And if a ball is called a strike, then the batter has to chase bad pitches. Jungmann did a good job, but he got help. Schimpf seems to be the especial beneficiary of bad calls. He got one horrible strike call every time he came up.
They need to make a rule that the ump explains the stike zone to both teams before each game. I am at a loss. I swear I remember Bradshaw throw a pitch for a strike, throw the exact same pitch next in the sequence, finding the same location and it was called a ball.
I sure as hell don't know what the strike zone is supposed to be watching these past 2 games.
There is always some inconsistency, but i don't think i am being a homer in saying that Texas has really been getting the better end of the stick.
Psychologically, it appears that umps cannot help but give you more calls if you seem to be more in control. it shouldn't be that way, but it is. Having said that, Coleman looked pretty good and he couldn't get a call at the knees over the plate - jungman was getting calls just below the knees.
I still think we will take them tonite. The team, for whatever reason, supports REnaudo and Coleman with better hitting. Must be a confidence thing.

You're right. The umps are conspiring against LSU.
Let's add them to the group that hates LSU.
