Why wouldn't the Ump confer on the potential hit by pitch?

After 5 or 6 replays with close ups, the announcers couldn't agree on whether or not the batter was hit by the pitch when Texas scored on what the ump called a pass ball.
When playing Arkansas the home plate ump called all to the umps together for opinions and that pitch was in front of the batter, clearly in the ump's field of vision. This pitch was behind the batter. It didn't appear that the ump had any view of the batter's back so why would he not confer with the other umps?
He may have had a good explanation because Manneri appeared to be satisfied with the ump's explanation.

It was clear to most people that it hit the Texas batter square in the back....
It was chickenshit of the Ump not to ask for assistance...
Thank God we didn't lose by 1...

ya after the slow mo replays it seemed as if it passed completely behind his back. still weird if yo think about it.

All irrelevant. We won so I don't care.

So did the ump for LSU-ARK when Ochinko (i think) jumped back out of the way. But when their coach bitched, the umps got together to talk about it.
The same courtesy was not extended to us. I don't think the ruling would have changed, but I would have liked to see them give a shite. Makes me wonder about the ego of the ump behind the plate refusing to ask for assistance.

There is a sound the ball makes when it hits flesh, leather, and bat. The Umpire knew the difference this time. Quit whining.

You are obviously mildly retarded.
The ball hit the back of the player/jersey and deflected away from Gibbs' glove....
Moot point but still should have asked for assistance....

And you are severely blind. It didn't even touch the jersey.

it may have touched his jersey, but even that is debatable
the ump did not confer because he was confident he made the right call. i am sure if he had doubt he would have talked it over with the others.
i think he made the correct call. but it really doesn't matter anymore.

hopefully the next fat arse to work home plate can find some under armour pants or something so he doesnt sweat lard onto the balls again

It didn't "clearly" hit him. I was actually surprised the announcers thought it might have.

I didn't hit him, it hit the glove and that is what changed the direction of the ball.

anyone have a link to it. I watched it in a bar and thought it hit him on the front view, then was confused if it him him or not on the back view

Did you hear the Texas pitcher yell...."He's got a wet sack!"
