Rock band is more fun to play with other people, as they offer Lead Guitar, Bass Guitar, Drums, and Voice as options, but it's more expensive. Guitar Hero has more versions (Beatles, Aerosmith, etc.)

So, if my goal is to get something that I can enjoy with the entire family then Rock Band is what I should purchase?

guitar hero offers the same with a better music. Guitar hero hits is coming out real soon and it looks pretty good.

The Beatles game is coming out through the company that makes Rock Band actually.

Guitar Hero does have Aerosmith, Metallica, and in the future Van Halen and possibly the Eagles.

As far as the threadstarter's original question, I think Rock Band is the better choice. They have a ridiculous amount of downloadable songs compared to very little put out by GH. However, I would say that GH isn't far behind because of the exclusivity they have gotten from certain artists.

I personally prefer rock band to guitar hero. The reason that I think RB is better is because they are consistently coming out with new tracks to download to make the game new.

If you buy RB2, you can buy a key for 6 bucks to be able to import all but 3 of the songs from RB1 into RB2. Rent RB1 and you have all of the songs from RB1 in RB2 for about $14.

RB is coming out with a Beatles game, if that is your thing.

RB1 - wireless guitar, wired mic and drums

RB2 - wired mic, wireless guitar and i think wireless drums

GH:WT - wired mic, wireless guitar and drums

and supposedly all the instruments are compatible with each other

I would go with Rockband for the family. Rockband is challenging but fun at the same time, GH they try to make it so hard that it takes the fun out of the game at the higher levels.

I personally like the Rockband music better.

They make aftermarket wireless microphones that work with Rockband. You probably just need to invest in one of those.

Could you be any more uninformed? You give posters everywhere with less than a 500 post count a bad name.

I prefer Guitar Hero. Mainly because I started playing it first. Guitar Hero 3 was hard as hell, but World Tour brought it back to a fun level yet still challenging on expert. Same with GH Mettalica. I am not a huge Mettallica fan, but that game kicks arse.

I prefer Rock Band as well. Rented GH and GH2 and neither would work with my RB2 peripherals. I like RB guitars better, as well. Also rented GH: Metallica and while it was some fun, I thought it was much harder. Really looking forward to RB: The Beatles

Rock Band has a much, much more extensive downloadable library ( Rock Band vs. Guitar Hero). In my opinion, the Rock Band library as a whole absolutely blows away the Guitar Hero library. If you plan on buying much DLC I think it is a no brainer to go with Rock Band.

I also believe that the vocals engine in GHWT is atrociously bad. If you will every be playing with 4 people and sticking someone on the microphone, Rock Band is strictly better.

I own both. Rock Band 2 almost never leaves my Xbox and GHWT almost never leaves its case.

I recommend buying a USB hub and a couple of Xplorer guitars for cheap. The Xplorer is the best plastic guitar ever by a fairly large margin and it also happens to be very cheap. If you get a microphone, a USB logitech microphone is probably the best option if you don't buy a bundle package.

I don't have alot of experience with the different drum kits. For sure the RB2 kit is much better than the RB1 kit.

I would recommend in general:

1. Buy the RB2 package deal (I think it has been on sale recently).
2. Buy an Xplorer guitar
3. Buy a USB hub if necessary (shouldn't be assuming you own a wireless controller for your xbox).
4. Go crazy on the DLC

DLC is more expensive than a new game every few months.

Metallica was awesome.

Greatest hits is going to be nice.

Beatles= fail.

I like rock band but if you started to play guitar hero first rock band plays like first generation guitar hero games, meaning it went back a few steps. No hammers, no pulls and the fast parts were impossible to play.

Huh?

Rock Band definitely has hammer-on pull-offs. I'm not sure what you mean at all by that. The timing window on them is smaller but that is a good thing in my opinion because you can't just flail your hands all over the fretboard and get through songs ala GH3.

I also have no idea what you mean by fast parts being impossible to play.

Also Beatles=fail?

The DLC content method is more expensive if you aren't picky but if you pick and choose you can end up with a larger percentage of songs you really enjoy playing while paying much less.

yes I just flail my hands and beat expert. RB band plays like guitar hero 1 and 2. I was a great game until GH put the complete set. At best they are even.

Guitar Hero greatest hits is going to be nice for xbox fans since we missed a few episodes of the guitar hero game. They did a good job of picking the songs but left a few off that I liked.

All this talk about mics. I hope everyone knows you can use your headset for xbox 360 on both games(not sure on other consoles). No need to buy a new one . You would be surprised how many people don't know this. Of course the game people won't tell you this.

for overall family fun go with rock band. guitar hero may be a better game from a game play perspective, but rock band is probably easier and it has where you can save you a band member struggling during a song. guitar hero does not have that.
