Holliday, a senior who finished second in 2007 and was third last year in the 100, actually ran a 9.991 according to the FinishLynx timing system. But the time is rounded up to the next tenth of a second, producing the 10.00.

So can we say he ran a 9.99 100?

When does this ever occur in track other than in the 1600+?

Have never heard of such a thing! If he ran a 9.991 then rounded off would be 9.99. If that is true why is it 10.00? What do the two zeros stand for if there is no such thing as a 9.99?
That is crazy and not right it should be and LSU should show it as a 9.99 and not a 10.00. LSU should question that final time.
In the Advocate this statement and time would be false: Southern Cal’s Ahmad Rashad took second in 10.10 seconds, with Texas A&M’s Gerald Phiri taking third at 10.18.

You cannot round down in Track and Field.

What if the other guy ran a 10.001 - would he be awarded a tie with TH?

According them he would be. They round to the nearst 10th and that would be 10.00.
I understans what you are saying it is just that he actually ran below 10.00 and it should be noted in some way.

It doesn't matter, the commentators for football will call it a 9.99

It is now officially 9.99 in my book at least. For footbal season, they can say "9.991".

So the other night,I saw Usain Bolt ran a 10.0. and he blew the field away. Did he coast to the finish? Is TH as fast as Bolt? That would be amazing considering the size difference.

They do round. If he ran a 9.98(1-9) he would have ran a 9.99. They dont round down and they dont go out to the thousandth place. If there was a tie of two times they would have had TH running a 10.00 (9.991) listed and the next guy would have had a 10.00 (9.996 or whatever)

Bolt ran that time in a downpour. Dude ran a 9.69 at the Olympics and pulled up at the end of that race. Holliday ain't in Bolt's league and never will be. Best shot is to make in the NFL as a return specialist.
