If he can be a position player next year?
PM says he earned that right?
Did I understand Erin's report correctly on WAFB?
Good news if so.

I think he needs to come back. Just because he has basically lived as a DH in college. His stock would rise if he can show he is good in the field. Plus if he can start off good and pick up at the end he would do better as well next year.

He could move up from the 11th round to the 6-9 rounds next year and get less money. That is possible. If the offer is right for him this year nobody can blame him for leaving.

what about him at 1B?
Posted on 6/10/09 at 7:04 pm to TIGER62
Nah. I think he better go when he can. 10th round is pretty high for a DH.

I would think he could make the transition to 1B. It looks like Ochinko won't be back, so he'd fill a need there.

You're statement is correct but I disagree with your logic. If he got drafted that high as a DH, why not try to be a position player next year to show scouts you aren't 1 dimensional and raise your stock?

Logic? You really want blake dean in the OF for LSU next year?

He losses all of his negotiation leverage if he comes back. Hopefully he does, but his signing bonus will be more this year unless he skyrockets up next year.

blake dean is better than 10th round.hes better than shimpf and he went in the 5th.all he has to do is work hard and carry the team on his back and hes a 2-5 rounder for sure.he can carry a team on his back.i think hes our best player this year.

Schimpf has wayyy more pro upside, that is why he was drafted before Dean. Schimpf is also a better all around player than Dean.

Schimpf is a better BASEBALL PLAYER than Dean. He's arguably the best pure player on the team, up there with LeMahieu.

i think dean is a 4 out of 5 hitting.a 2 out of 5 in the field.shimpf is a3 out of 5 hitting and fielding.but dean has something about him.he can carry a team.our 2nd baseman cant carry our team.

not only as a pure baseball player are you wrong, but the offensive statistics disagree.

baseball scouts rank players on a 1-5 rating.

There's no point for Dean to come back! He loses all his leverage and he won't be playing OF next year, maybe 1st if he's lucky. Even if he gets drafted in the 6-8 range he prob would get the same money, maybe less than this year. Let's hope he ends his LSU career with a great performance in Omaha.

on the 1 to 5 scale, how good do you think Schimpf's defense is....
(a) at 2nd?
(b) as a corner outfielder?
