In the works for the opening game of the season.

quote:

UNC is negotiating a deal to face its own SEC opponent in the 2010 Kickoff game.
UNC has three possible opponents for the game -- LSU, Georgia or Ole Miss.

I had heard it was likely going to be Georgia-UNC....but hey, I'd love UNC on the schedule.

Although Atlanta is getting a little old.

I want to see LSU play UNLV in Vegas to open 2010 or at Hawaii to open the season.

LSU would only have 6 home games scheduled in 2010 if this happens. Don't think LSU would agree to it unless they can move Tulane back to Baton Rouge.

I have met Butch Davis....he said he is 2 years away from a Championship team (legitimate run at it)

Everyone remembers his Miami teams went back to back with his talent after he left for Cleveland..Obviously he knows what level he has to attain to make that kind of comment.. I take him at his word

UNC is going to be a solid top 10 for a while

Uh..........and our schedule is brutal enough

Would be a great game...one I would travel to see

Not going to happen. That's part of the "Support New Orleans" plan approved by the LSU Athletic department.

What about WVU

It probably won't happen for LSU since we already have WVU and Southern Miss that year. Those should be two decently competitive teams, at least better than Tulane or ULL.

I'd love to get some payback for what I had to put up with during the basketball tourney, though!

I hope this doesn't happen. IMO playing UNC in Atlanta does nothing for LSU. Sure we recruit Atlanta and Georgia, but we don't get that many players from there to make this a good deal IMO. I thought they were all but signed up to play in Houston against someone?

UGA/UNC is all I've heard. Or atleast that's the most likely. I'd like to see the matchup... granted UNC is no virginia tech, but they are up and coming for sure and will probably compete for the ACC in 2010.

Every coach says they're "two years away". There are about fifty teams in D1 that are "two years away". Every team outside of UK, MSU, Vandy, and USCe is two years away.

I don't see the big deal here. Revenue is important but considering they get the lion's share of the revenue from the Tulane game and would presumably get a very nice check for an opener on television that's not going to be an issue in this case IMO

And 6 games at home isn't really all that few... keep in mind we used to have an 11 game regular season and any year you played an away game ooc that meant 6 home, 5 away

Revenue is important

Your sentence should have ended there. There are no "buts" when it comes to the importance our athletic department places on revenue from home football games.

That statement must mean he plans on being at a major SEC program as head coach in 2 years.
