How are the top 8 National Seeds determined? Just looked at both polls and UC Irvine and LSU are numbers 1 & 2. Texas is ranked 4th and 5th. Rice is ranked 9th and 11th. There is no way we should be paired with them!!!

It's clear that you answered his question. You have a comment for everything but you seem to explain anything. Like I said before, you have got to be one of the biggest smartass's on this site.

okay, here's the answer, the polls mean jackshit when it comes to determining the field of postseason play, its a combination of things, like RPI, W/L, SOS, Record vs Top 50, 100, etc.

The entire geographic proximity crap is just that. How in the hell is Cal St. ahead of us to begin with. Texas I can understand. But Fullerton?

It's a lot like the basketball seeding with more emphasis placed on geography. RPI is used to sort the teams, but it's only a guide. They look at the factors josh already listed as well as conference finish (huge factor, apparently) and how a team is playing right now (last 12).

Using those factors, it's no surprise Texas and UCF are seeded ahead of us. But given that most Supers are paired geographically, we'd probably have the same exact region and Super opponent were we the 1 or the 8.

also, the polls when it comes to college baseball are all over the map themselves. Baseball America, USAToday, Collegiate Baseball, etc. At least one of those is usually whacked compared to the other. Just too many teams to see and compare.

I like it that college baseball has a little more objectivity to determining the seeding than, say, a BCS "formula" that is mostly dictated by the polls.

Fullerton didn't even win their conference. Irvine took it by five games. Who loses their conference by five games and is still the second seeded team overall?

A team that had the #1 RPI and the #1 SOS.

Actually, the polls may be considered as well.

The fact that Irvine played eight Top 50 (and was only 5-3) teams dragged them down big time.
