Nola made some of you look like shite tonight. Dude made same tough plays; the turn in the first, the start of the DP later in the game and a sweet backhand. Some of these plays looked easy but they weren't. we would have lost tonight if not for his defense.
Oh and Coleman wasn't bad either.

He contributed to a win over a solid team. He looked pretty good at the plate.. just didn't get the base knocks.

You are really offensive minded? You are going to honestly tell me DJ makes all those plays Nola made tonight?

ss is prolly the only position were you can earn a starting spot based mostly on your glove.
ozzie smith wasn't exactly the greatest hitter either fwiw.

Tonight, great in the field and horrible at the plate... so what's new? At least you know what you get with him.
Coleman won this game, Nola had nothing to do with it.

Oh well we will agree to disagree. Nola made those plays look so easy. I don't think DJ turns to both DP's tonight. we would have gotten the lead man but not the DP. The play in the hole also would have been tough for DJ.

I bet if you asked Coleman if Nola had anything to do with winning this game he would without a doubt say yes. Both the DP's were big.

which is why nola is starting to begin with, because the DP's weren't being turned.

Jesus, how many "Nola is great" threads can people start? He has got to have more support than any 220 hitter in the history of baseball.
And for the record, Ozzie Smith hit 262 on his career and stole 580 bases. When Nola is stealing tons of bases and playing better defense than anyone ever... then you can make the comparison. A more fair comparison is Mark Belanger, a great glove and terrible hitter.
Nola plays good defense. But so does DJ. Any praise of Nola comes at the cost of tearing down DJ. And DJ is a much better hitter. Nola will be a great player for us. But he's a freshman right now. And he looks like a freshman who isn't ready. No shame in that. Plenty of players were overmatched as freshmen before turning it on the rest of their careers.

I agree with you. But right now he is our best SS in the field to win games

you do realize if he goes hitless tomorrow he'll drop below .200

Some of you guys are real fricktards. Nola is an upgrade for the infield. You want to put DJ back as SS I assume. Who are you taking off the bench and putting in the OF that is going to make the difference? Nola has clearly solidified the IF.

And I think the slight upgarde in defense is not worth the huge downgrade in offense. DJ is a pretty good SS in his own right.
If DJ was playing the field poorly, I think the move would be worth it. But he wasn't.
ETA: Why is it bad form to criticize Nola's defense as not being a true Tiger or whatever, but it is perfectly okay to criticize DJ's defense? Or every bench OF's offense (I kinda wouldn't mind Chad Jones as both a pitcher and a hitter) Could someone please post the list of the people we are allowed to criticize and those who are immune from criticism?

I think Nola is clearly a better SS than Lemahieu. I also think Lemahieu is clearly a better 2B than Shimpf. To me, that's why playing Nola makes sense...because we've upgraded the entire middle infield...not just one spot.

This is right on. It's simple; anyone who thinks Nola should not be starting at short is a f*&king retard and knows jack shite about baseball. Plain and simple.
