#5 Popeye's vs. #8 Arby's

Voting ends tomorrow night at Midnight.

Popeye's has produced more votes than any during this 18 team tourney. The famous spicy fried chicken, mashed potatoes, red beans and rice, buttery biscuits, and more modern items such as their chicken tenders, sandwiches, and shrimp baskets have established them as a Louisiana favorite - more than just an equal competitor to Church's and KFC (who both, by the way, were quickly eliminated). The main gripe about Popeye's has been the service, though. The laziness of some of the employees, however, detracts little from the flavor of that distinct batter and side dishes and the enjoyment factor. "Love that chicken from Popeye's!"

Started in 1972 by the late Al Copeland and later franchised in 1976, Popeye's is now an international sensation that has approximately 1,800 chains - quite an accomplishment from just a lone "Chicken on the Run" that was set up in a small section of New Orleans.

Arby's is undoubtedly one of its kind in this tourney. Not a burger place, Arby's has been serving up roast beef sandwiches - some doused in gooey, warm cheese aka Beef 'N Cheddars. Their menu is more than just roast beef as it is diverse and prides itself on not offering the original, simple hamburger. French dip subs, "Market Fresh sandwiches", cheddar fries, and a variety of milkshakes and desserts give Arby's an extensive menu that surely could not bore the average stomach. "I'm Thinking Arby's".

Started in 1969 by the Davises, Arby's has now grown into a well-respected franchise of approximately 265 restaurants - most of which are located in the central and southwestern portions of the United States.

Arby's because the food is better prepared, most of the time. I, for one, do not like Popeye's service.

Arby's

Popeye's is being overrated because this is a LA website. I have NEVER gotten even decent service at Popeye's.

Popeye's even though the service is bad and it is overpriced.
I just don't like Arby's at all!

even though the service can be terrible at popeye's, especially the new orleans locations, the food is so vastly superior to arby's that it still wins.

Popeye's by a nose at the line.

My analysis:

POPEYE'S: Great food, terrible service. The Popeye's in Winnfield and Jonesboro were recently closed, and with good reason. The Winnfield location was the filthiest eating establishment I have ever stepped foot in. Service was terrible, and there were roaches running around and climbing the walls. But the food is fantastic, if a little overpriced. Sometimes it seems like I'm being served fried quail because the pieces are so small.

ARBY'S: I have never had a bad experience at Arby's. All the ones I have gone into have been clean and have had great service. I love the regular roast beef sandwich, but I can't stand that rubbery "cheese" they sell. (Funny note: Arby's was running a "5 for 5" on Beef and Cheddar sandwiches. I went through the drive through and ordered five without cheese because I hate it. They said they would have to charge regular price. Lees food for more money - doesn't make sense.)

All in all, despite some weaknesses in both, I have to go with Popeye's due to the quality of the food.
