Why not in favor of playoff.

As evidence of the many threads arguing over who is the best. I think this is the best thing about college football. If there were a playoff then what on gods earth would we argue about. I for one find it entertaining to read threads over who is the best. Just look at the NFL, not a whole lot of good chat sites over there. College has such die hard fans because more than one team feels they are the best and all have good arguements. With a playoff system there would still be a little arguement but not as much. So in an effort to save off-season chatting I say no playoff.

Just leave it all up to congress. I'm sure they wouldn't screw up the process or anything.

Dude...that's like Muslims saying terrorism is great because it gets people talking about their religion.

Dude, that's freakin retarded! People complain about something year round because it is broken, that makes perfect sense to not ever fix something. Maybe that's why we never captured or killed Bin Laden, so we have something to talk about!!

I don't want a full playoff. The only thing I want is to take the system exactly as it is now, and have a +1 at the end.

Playoff would be bad for the SEC. That is what we play for, not the MNC. Win the SEC (or die trying), then see where you are when the smoke clears. I dislike the fact that you could be left out of Atlanta but be in the playoffs. You could almost rest players at the end of SEC play if you had a spot clinched. Just bad for conference play all around. The prize is in Atlanta, every year. Let's not forget. I say go back to bowl games on New Years, with tie-ins, and let whoever wants to vote on a champion knock themselves out. Football is a regional sport, and so are championships.

No, college football is fine how it fricking is right now.

Gaston, I almost agree with you. Go back to the bowl tie-ins and then have a four team playoff.

If a playoff system had been in place starting in 2006, it would have been possible for two SEC teams to play for the BCS title.
LSU could very well have met Florida in 2006 instead of Ohio State. And UGA could very well have replaced the Buckeyes in 2007.
As it is, I don't see any way two teams from the SEC will ever meet in the title game. And I see that as a problem.

I posted this in the thread at SEC Rant...
College Football Playoff would be bad thing.
First of all, how do you decide which teams get in? Are we talking about the top 4 teams or the top 8 teams? What about the 5th and the 9th who might be .0001 points behind the 4th or 8th place teams? Computer formulas will still be used to calculate which teams get in; they have to be. Coaches poll is so damn stupid: coaches don't watch every damn game to determine who's the better teams. Sportswriters are biased. West Coast Press sucks West Coast Team Dicks. ESPN sucks USC dick.
Strength of schedule MUST be used as one of the parameters. If it's not, conferences would suffer. What would keep a strong team from leaving a conference and playing nothing but patsies? Just schedule North Texas, Tulane, Rice, UAB, etc. and go undefeated. Could a team with the weakest schedule of all go undefeated then claim they're the best?
Secondly, how much money do the fans have? Can you afford to take off of work and travel to see your team play in the playoffs for 3 games? If not, do you go to the first game only and not the others? Do you wait to see if your team wins the first round before traveling? What if they lose? How many people would make that decision? This does not bode well for teams with strong fan bases that follow the team, i.e. the SEC.
I MIGHT be in favor of a +1 format but that's about it.
No matter what, there will ALWAYS be controversy. Most of it contrived, but controversy nonetheless.

So why should this be the only level of college football without a playoff?
Are you telling me FCS and lower division schools are smarter, more organized, and have better staff and leadership than the BCS schools do?

A playoff system with the current power hierarchy in college football would be a disaster. To have a fair playoff, you would have to rearrange the conferences and take away a lot of their power. That will not happen in our lifetime. I think the best we can hope for with the powers that be would be some kind of +1 format.
The thing people need to do is forget about the idea of the "best team" winning the championship. A playoff would not ensure that.

You have to love the level of excitement the BCS gives college football. I think at most a four team playoff is called for, but anything more than that and it is pointless. Every football team should be thinking if we lose this game were done, and thy should play like that. The BCS has done a pretty good job picking the Championship game since the blew it in 2004.
2005- texas v usc was the right choice
2006- Ohio state v Florida was the right choice
2007- LSU vs Ohio State was the right call
2008- Florida vs OU was the right call
Texas's argument is pointless, because if they should be in the championship because they beat OU, then Texas tech should be in because they beat texas, and OU should be in it because the beat Texas Tech. Kinda circular. And then Texas goes out and pulls of a close win over the perennial punching bag Ohio State.
