food sucks. Rabbit is the only good thing to order. Drinks are why people go

I've never eaten there.

I walked in one time to look around and saw a bunch of senior citizens huddled around the bar. I haven't heard enough positive comments about the food to try it yet, the distance is also a big factor.

Consider yourself lucky!

The last time I was there the food maked me sick! I would avoid it at all cost! There are sooo many other good Mexican Restaurants that you could go to. La Carretta has the best food. Mestizos has the best Margaritas IMO.

Never cared for the food. Used to go for the Margarita specials at the bar after work. We would order hamburgers and they were pretty good.

oh, come on now!

It definitely had it's down period, but that ended a few years ago. The food has gotten a LOT better. As someone with very close connections to the restaurant I have definitely seen the place hit ground zero and turn back around into some of the best Mexican in Baton Rouge.

I've taken 20 friends to eat there in the past year and nearly all have asked for me to take them back. The nachos and taco meat are incredible. Quesadillas are also very good. Strong margaritas and good prices.

No Mrs Despo..no my dinero!

It died when she did..even the taco meat has went cheap and greasy.

It's not 1967, 1976, 1986..it's 2009..BR Mexican has many better options that weren't around during the best LaFonda eras..and even then I liked Carlos better.

Usually go for the margaritta's and an order of Beef Nacho's in the lounge..

always enjoyed the Beef Nachos.

And I have to admit the new crawfish chimichinga is pretty damn good..

They really have seemed to be trying to improved the last few years.

the sides have always been bad, really bad IMO.

Their old refried beans were some of the best ever.

I'm talking 20+ years ago, though.

Thanks you, I doubt any of those bashing this place have been any time in the last couple years.

I have always loved how they do their Ground Beef, totally unique and the Beef Enchiladas are some of the best in BR. This place was about dead and gone, but I was glad to see it revived. Its one of those neighborhood joints that has a nice local and loyal following.

I think you guys are just trading on nostalgia. Hell, my old man used to take me there when I was a kid. He was a fan of their margaritas.
I've been there for lunch within the last year.
It was just lame, generic, unininspired Tex-Mex.
Sorry to say.

agreed.

I always make a point to bring friends there and several have told me it beats any other Mexican food they've tried in Baton Rouge. Most have asked for me to take them back, and I'm sure there's also a few that didn't care much for it.. That's expected with any restaurant.
