This is from an article our favorite sportswriter wrote for the Shreveport Times about the draft.

(on Tyson Jackson) "He is the ninth LSU player recruited and signed by former LSU coach Nick Saban to go in the first round."

How does that contribute to the article except to continue his love-fest with Saban? I wish the man would move on, but by that asinine statment, he never will.

i wonder what he will say next year when/if LaFell goes in the first round. did he mention anything about former players under Chavis that went in the first round? Tennessee had a DL that went in the 1st round yesterday.

That's like giving credit to a birth mother that gave up a child who later succeeded in life. Stupid. The parents who raised the kid get the credit. Saban might have brought Jackson in, but Miles "raised" him. He gets total credit.

Gilbeau, as absurdly myopic as he is, probably can't help himself. The real blame goes to any business that chooses to pay him and publish his nonsense.

Ok, this is a TIRED issue, but I'll rehash it AGAIN.

I give Saban all the credit in the world for evaluating, signing, and developing the best players in Louisiana during his tenure. However, all this credit for Saban needs to end, here and NOW. It's over. It's a double standard based solely on perception. I didn't hear Mike Shula getting bouquets when his Alabama players (DeMeco Ryans, Brodie Croyle, etc) got drafted.

In this case (and many others), he left before Tyson ever set foot on campus. Therefore, he gets NO credit for him being selected #3 overall in the draft. Miles and his staff kept him on campus, developed his skills, and put him in a position to succeed.

Futhermore, there is absolutely NOTHING to indicate that Louisiana players such as Jackson came to LSU solely b/c Saban was the coach. In fact, I think that Miles's recruiting has proven that LSU sells itself.

Regardless of whether Miles trained him, what Guilbeau said is 100% correct. I don't think it is pertinent, but it is a fact that he was recruited and signed by Saban.

Accuracy and honesty aren't always the same thing. Politicians and journalists are forever making statements that, taken in a vacuum, are absolutely accurate. However, statements are seldom made in a vacuum, and are obviously intended to be understood in a particular context and to imply an unstated conclusion or premise. When challenged on the honesty of the statement, taken in its obvious context, the journalist, or politician, can deny he meant the obvious, and defend his statement as "100% accurate." It doesn't make him any less dishonest.

Tyson Jackson was I believe a 3-star prospect coming out of high school. It wouldn't have mattered who the LSU coach was at the time. If LSU offers an in-state 3 star guy, there is a 95% or better chance that they'll sign with LSU. Saban gets no credit for this in my opinion.

This is incorrect.

Did you read his baseball articles today? I dont think you can say this guy is anti LSU. I get frustrated with him at times but kind of like a different view.

sorry, you're right. I forgot that Tyson redshirted in 2004 (Saban's last year).

But come on, do you really think that one redshirt year under Saban had any impact on him being #3 overall? I don't think so...

No, agreed, Saban had little influence on his development as a player.

Next year Guilbleau will say.....

quote:

LSU's recent draft choices are a direct reflection of Nick Saban turning LSU into a contender again and recruiting top notch talent to LSU thus making it a breeding ground for NFL prospects.

We'll never forget Huey Long, Y.A. Tittle, Billy Cannon, Tommy Casanova, Carl Otis Trimble, Gerry Dinardo and Kevin Faulk either. All were parts of the legacy of LSU football. And so were a lot of others.

Thank you all.

There is something in the water in Shreveport that makes sportswriters there hate LSU.

What about Meyer winning with Zooker's recruits. What about Nutt winning with O's recruits? What about Petrino win.... um NM!
