I know his strikeout to walk ratio is unreal, and he has generally been effective, but does this guy remind anyone of Rod Beck (former major leage closer)? Obviously, not in stature or look, but it seems like everytime Ott takes the mound in a close game, it is always an adventure. Don't get me wrong, I am glad to have him, and I'm not sure anyone else could do better, but man, it would be nice to see a 1-2-3 inning in a 1 or 2 run game every once in awhile. THat being said, he is a freshman, and Paul M. has put tons of pressure on him, but hopefully, as the season winds down, he can get his breaking ball down in the zone more and every once in awhile save us a close game without our hearts about to explode.

Fire away...

alot of closers have that problem, but i think its a little early to crown him with that reputation, he was lights out in the beginning of the year, just the last couple outings have been adventurous.

Ott is a freshman that has done nothing but good for LSU this year. Be happy.

Doesn't remind me of Beck at all....

Ott- still breathing
Beck- has assumed room temperature

No lie...the list of GREAT major league closers that would come in and make it way more exciting than it needed to be is a long and distinguished one...

Lee Smith is the one that comes to my mind.
Brad Lidge is right there.
Jose' Valverde did this TONIGHT.

Im with you on that one, I have two Lee Smith signed balls and it would be great to see him get what imo he has earned.

The thing with Ott is he is not an overpowering pitcher. He has a good breaking ball which results in a lot of ground balls, but if he loses a ball up in the zone he's hittable. His control and placement is where his high strike out and low walk ratio goes, but I believe as long as he stays healthy he will only get better and maybe save us some heart attacks.
