is tiger baiting visiting fans rude?

i always considered tiger baiting a friendly gesture of respect to an opposing school's fan base. this past season at the alabama game,
i saw some frat boys & two tall lovely statuesque coeds get in the
face of visiting students before game time , tiger baiting and
shaking pom poms in their faces. you had to see it ,it was way over the line.

I think a lot of it depends on the situation. I see nothing wrong with Tigerbaiting anyone in good fun. To what extreme you tigerbait someone really is gaged off of their responses. Some opposing fans have more fun with it than others and it's all good either way. However, I have seen some guys jump in opponent fans faces particularly a man walking along with his wife and kid and go a little overboard with it. That wasn't that cool.

At a sporting event - on campus or at a tournament venue - I see nothing wrong with it. When it's screamed across airport terminals or in restaurants it quickly becomes obnoxiousness personified.

Well two years ago a friend of mine was down for the South Carolina game I was throwing him a bachelor party and we had other guys down for that as well I got tickets for everyone and a couple of guys were UGA fans. Walking to the game I wore my LSU colors and one of the guys wore a UGA shirt. When we got near some of the dorms a bunch of frats literally got in our path and was chanting tiger bait at the top of their lungs like they were about to pounce on him. That was totally uncalled for and after trying to convince these guys that LSU fans were some of the greatest in the nation that was all ruined by a couple of total dicks. I have seen it a bit though.. Some of the kids in school now dont really know how to tigerbait they just think they have to be a dick about it. Everyone else knows its just ribbing others in a friendly manor.

Depends on how you do it and who you do it to.
Just bout anything taken to the extreme can become offensive.
Some of our fans need to grow up and some fans of other teams need to be able to take a little ribbing when they venture away from home.

WHEN YOU DO IT AT AS A FRIENDLY GESTURE IT IS FINE. WHEN YOU ARE DRUNK AND ALL IN THEIR FACE IT IS RUDE. I HAVE BEEN THAT GUY WHERE I WAS DRUNK AND A GROUP OF MY FRIENDS AT A GAME WERE ALL IN AN OPPONENTS FACE. THAT WAS RUDE BUT A HECK OF A LOT OF FUN.

I don't think it is a gesture of respect. But I don't think it is rude either- given it is a CF game. Not over the line.
Now tiger bating someone at a resturant or in a store because they have another team's apparel on is sometimes rude and over the line.

Drunks tigerbaiting my eight year old son every time that he stood up was pretty fricking rude.
There are assholes at any sporting event. The chant just gives the drunks a way to guff people without having to think.

I have used it several times when another fan was trying to talk junk about LSU to me. I just drown them out with Tiger Baits. They hate that shite.

It's one thing to tiger bait an opposing fan. It's another thing to assault him by shaking a pom pom in his face. Anybody that does that deserves a punch in the face, LSU fan or not.

I watched the Florida-Oklahoma title game at a bar in Oklahoma City this year where there was a table of Florida fans. During the game I cheered for Florida with them (they knew I was LSU) and at the end I congratulated them, then added since now the new season was beginning, Tiger Bait! Tiger Bait! I didn't get all up in their face with it and they knew it was all in the spirit of sportsmanship.

Nothing wrong with tigerbait chants anymore than there is anything wrong with LSU fans at the Swamp hearing chants bout the colors they wear. Like you said, "There are assholes at any sporting event."

But hell yeah, Tigah bait is a great tradition and I am sorry to see it fade away so much over the years...
