Chad Jones said our new defense is an attacking defense. He said the players like to call it "playing with violence". What a difference this defense is going to be from last year..........I can't wait.

It's all about risk vs reward. The more you attack, the more you leave yourself open to flanking manuvers. We all like aggressive defense, but with the spread (4-5 wides) extrapolating across the SEC we could easily find ourselves in a negative number situation in pass coverage. If Chavis does attack...then Cooper better be well schooled in risk management.

If he had said "playing with disciplined violence" I'd be happier. Last year's problem (or at least, the major problem) was the lack of discipline. Not staying in lanes or areas of responsibility, not trusting that the other guy would do his job if you just did yours. I'm hopeful that Chavis and crew have turned this aspect around.

What I saw last year were CB's shrugging there shoulders before plays and looking confused about what to do. I chalked that up to poor coaching. With the highest paid DC in the SEC, I doubt that will happen this year. Chad Jones is an animal.

Youre spot on that assessment. The schemes and substitutions killed us. One of the best improvements I've heard from Chavis has been that he's simplifying assignments and letting our atheletes play. Less substituting and more attacking. Make the offense respect us. Our D is going to be back in the top 3 of the SEC next year.

If our offensive line shapes up, we'll see you guys in Atlanta.

As far as covering the spread, you have to attack the QB. If he has time in the pocket, he will find an open WR. Nice thing about our D is our secondary is looking much better than last year. Petterson and Jones will be outstanding.

I can not wait for the season to start, but they need more practice. It needs to become second nature to them...the second one of them steps on the field they need to become "hit-men."

I think the killer instinct is there. Most of the starters were trained by Pellini who was pretty aggressive. The word from practice is that fire is back. Should be great times for us who love good D.

I'm absolutely okay with giving up the long ball as long as the QB is physically unable to throw another one..

Fixed.

Wow, I didn't know LSU's D knew how to blitz

They actually blitzed a lot last year but it wasn't disguised well at all. The blitzing LB/Db always seemed to get picked up by someone.

I guess Monte counts. How about 2nd highest paid? Much more than Charlie Strong for sure.

And last year, I think it could have been called playing with violins.
