On the Matthews=Roids I will quote one of our USC fans

quote:

The only people that make me lol more than those than defend Cushing are those that think Clay Matthews naturally gained 80 pounds of pure muscle form his senior year in high school to junion year in college

If we want to improve the run game take Oher or Smith.

That would be my pick if I was drafting. I think it is thee safest and would be nice to upgrade the OL.

I don't think any of the USC LBs are worth the 14th pick. I question taking another CB when we have already invested so much in the position. I am alright with the Wells pick because I think he is one of the BPA at that pick and think he could help with controlling the game with a lead.

in a perfect world trade down and get Matthews. cb's are ok. one of the safties are horrible, but nobody good enough for the first round, lb'ers two of them could easily be improved thru the draft in the first round.

If those were my only two choices, I'd choose Jenkins. Probably be a solid FS in three years. Matthews is too big of a "?". I'd rather have P. Jerry than either of these two though.

Doesn't he have us picking Wells in round 1?

That might happen... we simply don't have a running back that allows our offense to runs enough.

Fixed it for you.

So PT's 4.8 ypc is what's holding this team back huh?

I wouldn't necessarily talk down Matthews so much. USC had produced really good NFL talent on the defensive side of the ball in the recent past.

Really? There are currently 15 players from USC in the NFL on the defensive side of the ball:

Darnell Bing (LB) Lions
Shaun Cody (DT) Texans
Sedrick Ellis (DT) Saints
Lawrence Jackson (DT) Seahawks
Willie McGinest (LB) Browns
Mike Patterson (DT) Eagles
Troy Polamalu (SS) Steelers
LaJuan Ramsey (DE) Titans
Keith Rivers (LB) Bengals
Frostee Rucker (DE) Bengals
Junior Seau (LB) Patriots
Lofa Tatupu (LB) Seahawks
Terrell Thomas (CB) Giants
Kenechi Udeze (DE) Vikings
Thomas Williams (LB) Jaguars

The ones in itallics are either debatable or can't be classified as 'recently', leaving the two in bold as the only known 'really good players' on defense and even those two have 5+ years in the league. So, yeah...

Does not look like too bad of a list to me. Also, you must not have followed the Eagles run to the NFC Championship game last year!

Why are we having this argument again?!?!

He didn't do crap at the begining of the season when he had a shot.

He doesn't get enough carries but when he did he did so great.

That was against the bottom rated defenses (except tampa) and at the end of the season when he was still fresh and the other teams were not.

Did you see what he did to Chicago.

Yes. I'd say we were set at running back if we played Chicago 16 times this year but we don't.

He started over Rashard Mendenhall at Illinois.

Justin Vincent and J. Hester started over Charles Scott. So what?

I was fine with the assessment that we just didn't know about PT before because I could see both sides of the argument, but the argument swayed to PT not being that good when S. Payton was interviewed on NFL Network and said the RB position needed to be upgraded. To me this screams that the coaching staff has no faith that PT and Bush can carry the load at running back and PT has not shown that he can do that yet.

Andre Smith--Would be a steal at 14
Malcolm Jenkins--Great instincts at CB or FS
Knowshon Moreno--His ability to make people miss
Clay Matthews--Overachiever with great work ethic

Actually PT lost his job to Rashard his senior year, He got the bulk of the carries. PT's body can't stand up to a year of 15 to 20 carries
