Best Mexican food in BR imo. I've never seen anything on the board about them.

For people that haven't tried it, I highly recommend it. Best fajitas I've had in town. Homemade tortillas, fantastic salsa, large portions and recently lowered prices. Also has fantastic service-I've had nothing but good experiences there.

Brought the gf tonight and it was $25 tip included with no drinks. It is our favorite place to eat in BR. Check it out.

The restaurant before it, called Papasito's, was way better.

Mi Padres is pretty good. We go to the one in Prairieville across from On The Half Shell.

Is this the place across from Perkins Rowe, in the same shopping center as Buffalo Wild Wings? If so, I went 1x about 2.5 yrs ago...that place is HORRIBLE!

They have 2 locations, and 1 time 2.5 years ago isn't enough data to make that declaration in all caps I think they are pretty good Mexican...for Baton Rouge. The homemade salsa and bean dip they give you with the chips are pretty good. Homemade tortillas are always a must for good mexican food, and I've found several items there that I like, crunchy taco, chicken flautas, and the tamales are decent. I did find the fajitas bland and didn't really like the margaritas, but if you found it HORRIBLE you either ordered the wrong thing or caught them on an off night.

The steak fajitas there are great. When it was Papacito's, the only reason I would go there was for their bistec a la tampiquena, which was money. Otherwise, I got sick of watching Jamal Roman bitch at his waiters in front of employees for the most trivial things, and stopped spending my money there. The Salvadoran manager there moved on to become the manager at Superior.

I've been there a couple of times since it became Mis Padres, and as far as Tex-Mex quality goes, the food is great. They bit Ninfa's tortilla recipe, so the tortillas are tasty, and the beef stripes are delicious and tender. I also think that it's badass that they give you refried beans as a free dip along with your salsa.

Not the best Tex-Mex in BR, but definitely in my top destinations if I want beef fajitas or tortilla soup.

Peas definitely belong in rice in Latin American cooking. Green peas or chickpeas.

You've got to be kidding. Hell, it's not even run by Mexicans.

maybe Honduran, Guatamalan, and all those others that you enjoy... but NOT Mexican. IMO IMHO FWIW I thought their rice was bad... Is it too much to ask for good rice, refried beans, and beef enchiladas?

In Baton Rouge? Yes. Expect them to get mexican right when they figure out that chili sauce is chili based, not tomato based. Never been to Arizona or California, but so far Texas and New Mexico are the only places north of the border that get Mexican food right.

They do Mexican right in Alabama. One of the things I miss greatly from Birmingham.

Being Mexican-Owned typically makes a difference, but that doesn't always mean anything. How many sushi restaurants in BR are actually Japanese-owned?

In my experience, the distinction between a Mexican-owned Tex Mex place (La Carreta) and a Lebanese-owned one (Las Palmas) is that the owners typically eat and/or sample their own food regularly to ensure for quality and consistency. The guys that own Las Palmas get burned out on their own food. But if an Arab-owned Tex Mex restaurant has a longtime Mexican kitchen manager, the food can be excellent (especially if the chef has creative freedom).

I don't go to Mis Padres expecting authenticity, but I do expect quality ingredients and consistently good cooking. It's been a pleasant surprise.
