Why are the RANTards cheering the fact that we signed a 33 year old FS?
Because he's much better than what we had before. People cheer when we get better.
Sharper is 4x Pro Bowl, 4x All Pro (He was All-Pro and Pro Bowl in 2007, 2005, 2002, and 2000)
And yeah, he's 33.
Same age as Ray Lewis and Charles Woodson, who were both All-Pro and Pro Bowl in 2008. Also the same age as CB Ronde Barber who was Pro Bowl in 2008.
LB Jame Farrior is currently 34, and he was All-Pro and Pro Bowl in 2008.
CB Al Harris is currently 34 and he was 2007 All-Pro and Pro Bowl in 2007 and 2008.
S Brian Dawkins is currently 35 and he was 2006 All-Pro and Pro Bowl in 2006 and 2008.
DT Pat Williams is currently 36 and he was 2007 All-Pro AND Pro Bowl in 2006, 2007, and 2008.
But yeah, these guys are at the end of their careers, including Sharper. But Sharper still has at least a year left of being one of the top tier safeties in the NFL, three or four if we are lucky. But all that matters is this season.
And yeah, it would be obviously nice if we had a young talented S on the team that would train and learn under Sharper and that would eventually take his place. But there is no way a rookie we took in the draft this year would better for us next year than Sharper.

Well he started all 16 games for Minnesota last year. He seemed to play pretty well.

Lonely, Ted?
Actually, well laid out defense. I'm sure it took time, so I'll give you the props you deserve.
